Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I haven't cleaned mine yet. If I can come home early tomorrow I think I'll do the clean though as shes looking dreadful at the moment.

BTW, I am going to stick my Tig up on a hoist on Wednesday morning to see whether there is any/much damage underneath. I'll let you guys know in case you are concerned as I think if anyone is going to have damage it'll be me.

You should have seen my dealer principals face when I drove a brand spanking new Tiguan into the lot absolutely caked in dust and dirt - I think the word dissaproving comes to mind!!

I would highly recommend this trip - we all had a ball and it was a great challenge - especially as I had my 7 month old in the back! One thing I have now realised though is how god the boot is for changing nappies and then you can throw the dirty ones underneath in the spare wheel well (maybe you didn't need to know theat

Hahaha, just make sure you remove them from the spare wheel area before you put it back out in the lot.

I would have ben pleased to see a dirty off-road tig in the lot, it shows that the car actually has some off-road potential.
Good to see you went along though and now you can provide accurate info on the off-road experience to potential customers.
It amazes me when the dealers up here think they can tell you that the off-road tech gives you lifted suspension and bigger tyres.

Are you seriously getting told that in Queensland? that's not good!! they left out the part where if it gets too rough the car will let out it's wings and fly over the obstacle

Yeah, I'm thinking about the next trip already. I am very keen on trying to drive on Stockton Beach, but realise planning that as a trip is a bit of a gamble as we aren't sure we'll actually be able to make it onto the beach because of the clearance.

There are a couple of other suggestions like the Turon river track and the Abercrombe Fire trail, and I think Duncan mentioned a trek around Mittagong. But I need to do a bit more homework before I try arrange the next trek to make sure it's something the Tig can actually do. I'll keep you posted though.

I'm picking up my tig this weekend so I'll be up for the next trip.

I was up at Newnes Plateau a couple of weeks ago, there were a lot of 4wds up there...
                and fairly close to Sydney

Wheels Mag did a soft-roader test and took all 8 cars onto stockton beach.
They said the tig performed flawlessly so you should be fine.

The Honda CRV on the other hand failed miserably

A trip to Stockton is a must but we need someone in a proper 4X4 to drag us out if we bogged, a Disco or Cruiser will do.

I think we should do a trip NEWNES which the Tig are more comfortable to do it.

Video of us playing in the gravel pit

Did a quick video of us playing in the gravel pit before attacking the tougher sections. Was a nice little confidence boosting session to let us get to know our Tig's capabilities a bit better.

The video was shot using an old Kodak camera, so they aren't great quality, but you can still see enough:

                        Awesome vid.
Good to see what the tig can handle.

I assume the last one had no off-road tech?

Correct. Easy to spot the benefit of locking the centre diff hey? I need to add an annotation to the video to point that out.

That's right. It's the lack of off-road tech on my Tig and not my off-road driving skills!
