Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Some queries regarding Tiguan

    Hello All,

I have read a lot of good review about Tiguan and planning to get one this year. Before committing myself, the following are my queries:

    1) Is all Tiguan German made?

    2) Could someone let me know the typcial cost for minor and major service for a Tiguan (2010 model)?

    3) Is leather seat option worth it? I would thought that it would be warmer than standard seat if the car is left out on the sun for some time.

    4) Does 147TSI 2010 model come with bluetooth as standard?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat and will be ordering one in the next few weeks. I'm waiting to see if the change in the import duties is passed along (reduced by 5%), though I doubt that it will.

    Yes

Someone else will have to help you there. My cars are leased, and it's part of the package.

That's a call you have to make. We prefer leather, but it takes some looking after, and it you don't take car of it, it can look shoddy pretty quickly. Also, I will not have a car with a black or charcoal coloured interior....way to hot for my taste. Our latte R32 doesn't become unduly hot.

    4) Does 147TSI 2010 model come with bluetooth as standard?
No. Bluetooth seems to be a bit of a minefield with VW. Talking to the dealers just recently, and they still don't seem to be offering what is the best solution...the integrated Skoda kit. They had 3 options, none of which properly integrated with the RNS510 (the sat nav), and one of which was a pretty unattractive add on. The Skoda kit is available from Europe or people like Harding or Volkspower. I'll order the Tiguan with the sat nav, and then have the kit installed by Volkspower.

      Thanks jb747,

How much does it cost you to buy and install the Skoda Bluetooth Kit?

It was $1500 installed. I expect some DIY people can source it for less by importing from Europe. I just wanted it installed and working....which it does very well. I don't know if it will integrate with other head units other than the RNS510.

First service - free (it's only a check over), but have heard some people have been charged for this.
          Second service - $252
It's now due for it's 3rd, interesting to see what that will be.

If you want light coloured interior then you have to go for leather - but I wouldn't/didn't - it's been discussed here recently. It's a shame they don't offer a light coloured interior with cloth seats.

Good window tinting drastically reduces interior temps and air con works much better. Even up here in Bris, I run mine at 23 - 24C, with or without passengers.

            Thanks jb747.

            For the Skoda info.

            Thanks clip,

Do you recommend additional window tinting? I understand that the window tint comes standard and for 147TSI dark tinted rear side windows comes as standard as well.

            Thanks

It's not enough IMHO. I would get the best, darkest legal tint you can. I know they say that you don't need darkness for it to be effective, but my experience is otherwise. The standard is OK, does help, but doesn't beat full tint. Of course you might be like an ex girlfriend of mine that refused to get her windows tinted because if she did then no one could see her

Decide after you've had the car for a while. The dealers are just trying to sell something extra, and you can readily get this done later, and generally for a lot less $.
