Correct and that's what I'm saying is WRONG, I certainly haven't driven ANY car (and I have owned both 3 and 6 series Mazda autos) that WILL change down while the cruise is switched on. I truly believe you are mistaken and the the Tiguan system is exactly the same in that respect.

Well it certainly slows my diesel down, I've tried it and downshifting to fifth is usually sufficient to maintain 110 kph (cruise ON) unless the hill is VERY steep in which case it's on the brakes and worry about the cruise at the bottom of the hill.

Have you actually tried it ? I certainly concede it may not be as effective in a petrol Tig as they may not have quite as much engine braking but as I say, it certainly works with my diesel, that's why I suggested it.

    Cheers

Not in an auto. I have found that on downhills it's easier to slip into tiptronic and shift down a gear to maintain speeds within a km or 2 of what you set.

I can't believe this thread has gone on for four pages.

Lets just hope that the next Tig has adaptive cruise control, combined with everything else that the Tig has - that none of the japs can match, otherwise we might lose some more mazda drivers.

Adaptive Cruise will get a tick on my next Tigga. Worth having. I'm sure the next Tig will also have a DSG option.

You are not loosing me, no worries. My Mazda is up for sale.
I just have to do more braking to help where the high tech stuff can't (or doesn't want to) do it.

I rather have the semi-auto cruise control on the Tiguan than this -

A routine road trip became half an hour of horror for a Melbourne man this afternoon when his four-wheel-drive's cruise control malfunctioned on the Eastern Freeway.

                  unbelievable.

How bizarre... why wouldn't putting it in neutral or turning the engine off work... seems a bit suss to me.
