    Hey guys

Has anyone got the vw sidesteps fitted onto the car. I would love if someone had a picture of a tiguan (preferably black) with the factory side steps. Have you found it useful? This car is higher than my old one (forester) and i feel the need for them as i am sliding in and out of my beige leather seats and starting to stain them,

For what it's worth I had side steps on my Sorento and don't have on the Tig and they're about as useful as a chocolate teapot !! If you really need something to step on the only ones I know of that put a step in a vaguely useful position are the motorised ones that fold out from under the car when you open the door. Personally I still quite like the look of them (the factory standard ones) and may consider putting them on my Tig sometime BUT only for looks and perhaps the fact that they act as good mudflaps to protect the bottom of the doors.

      Cheers

I was wondering about having them too..I have the same problem with my black beige interior. I have just done the 'xfactor" thingy for the seats and interior..

the other thing is that they are handy for those annoying people who open their doors too hard and dint yours. I also go to the snow so i have a roof pod which would make it easier to get up and get things out

Unfortunately the steps don't stick out as far as the centre of the door so they don't stop "anything" and you'll find that because they don't stick out far you'd need a reversible knee joint in order to have them being much use loading things onto the roof. I've found the best way to do that is just have the door open and step on the sill. Still think they look good though !!!

              Cheers

Do you think they would be hard to mount yourself?

Maybe we could do a group buy and fit ourselves?

Another thing to consider is if you fit bars like AlanTig's you've probably lost over 50mm of ground clearance and your ramp-over angle will be a real issue. So, if you're thinking of any sort of off-road work (I realise most people don't so it wont be an issue at all for them) you've got to be careful or have them strong enough that the cars weight can rest and slide on them if necessary.

                      Cheers

That's why I like the factory ones, you don't seem to lose clearance?

Agreed, if you do it's certainly not much by the look of it.

VW are quoting $1340 for the side steps including fitting.

As a side note - the door scuff plates are being quoted at $520 for all four doors including fitting.

Seems very pricey, more than I thought they might be.

edit - I've decided I'll take delivery of the car, have a think about if I REALLY want them first.

                              For those interested

I got a mate with a trade card to call and check the cost to purchase the sidesteps and they quoted (wait for it!) $697!

So if you want them just find a freind who is a mechanic and he should be able to install them for you.
