Not too happy and told the dealer straight up that if I wasn't changing the tyres soon I'd make them replace it with others. Got fed the usual story that they have no control over what VW puts on in the factory ....

Now after a few 100kms they are not actually that bad. They are quiet and reasonably grippy.

Still replacing them after the 1000km service though ....
Would have been interesting to see whether you'd have had any luck getting them to change the tyres. i suspect you would have been stonewalled till you gave up.

Just on your 1000km service, yours is the Petrol Tig isn't it? Interesting that the Diesel only has it's first service at 7500km, and even then, it's an optional service. if you don't get it done it won't affect your warranty.

I'm looking forward to the pics of your Tig as it evolves into the beast you seem to have in mind. Presumably the first stop is the 18" wheels?

Service intervals for the petrol are the same as the diesel. 15,000km/12months unless operating under 'severe service" then the service schedule modified to suit the "severe service".

A 1000km service would be a courtesy checkover offered by the dealer. Mine told me to come back at 3000km - never bothered because nothing needed checking.

All VWs have a free 1000km checkup service. Nothing gets changed (as in oil), its purely to hook up the diagnostic computer and see if all is OK with the car. Takes less than an hour.

Upgrade plan starts with a CAI (cold air intake) to help it breathe a bit better then a chip and gearbox mount insert. Visited APR today to check the engine code. Chip & insert to happen after the 1000km checkup service. This will also likely be the last time a VW dealer sees the car as it will be serviced and maintained by a VW specialist after that.

Suspension and wheels to happen shortly thereafter....... 18"s & HR Sport Springs already waiting in the garage at home

I'd be really interested in you providing more information regarding your comment that "all VW's have a free 1000k checkup".

Phone your dealer and ask ..... my GTI had it and now my Tiguan has it. (different dealers) I thought it was common knowledge Both dealers made a point of it that I understood it was a free checkup ......

Page 16 of my service schedule says "next service 1000km

After that normal schedule of 15000km/12months applies.

I wasn't told about this either!?!?!
                Mmm
They even said the 7500km service was optional?!?!

I've been away for almost a month now - so only just clicked over 2000kms... wonder if I should ring them?!?!

I had a chat with Chatswood classic cars about the 7500km service and it's not really a service. It's a fluid levels check, error code check, and that's about it. So I don't think it's too much to get hit up about.

Another Tig owner I know down here, Michael from Canberra VW Centre, bought from Lennock and was also not told about the free 1000km check up. Speaks volumes for Lennock really.

At the 7500 service I'll be changing my oil, and every 7500 after that. May be a bit over the top but I'm fussy like that

Asked about the first service, and was told nup, see you in 15000. That was from Barloworld Glen Waverley.
I thinnk you'll see them sooner. I've just hit 6800km's and when ever I turn on the ignition I'm getting a message in the MFD saying service due in 700km's or 103 days. I'll be hitting 7500km's before the week is out so will let you know what it does when I pass the mark.

Mine must have been set already by the dealer for 15000, checked service bizzo in the MFD, says in 14800 (I know, thats all I've been able to do in it...! so far) or 371 days.

Ah well, as long as nothing goes wrong, I've no reason to take it back till then I guess. Apart from to pick up some extra oil.

As I took delivery I was told you can reset this warning / service reminder yourself or ignore it. It is completely optional, and they don't necessarily do much...
sounds like a version of the free 1000km with a couple of extras thrown in.

Well, had my 7500km "service" today and it's nothing more than a fluid level check, diagnostic, and some "software update" which they couldn't tell me anything about. So I wouldn't sweat it if you check your oil level regularly.
