Tiguan 320Nm TDi chip options

hi guys - being around 3 Golfs and a Kombi in my life, my wife now wants to add her name to the VW list and get a Tiggy. she's also preparing for when i implant her with a bubba and it seems that the Tiggy is good for kids and strollers and all that kiddie/boring stuff.

anyway, i digress. from what i can gather, the stats appear to be the same for my current Golf TDi and the donk in the Tiggy TDi. So why can't i go and buy any of the current Golf diesel chip and whack it in the Tig? anyone know if you can or can't?

It's not actually a "chip" change it's a reflash of the original chip, a remap if you will. The remap would be different to a Golf as you have to take into account that the Tig has a different ECU to the golf and other differences between the 2 cars etc. Oettinger do a remap for the TDI Tig, puts it up to 125kw and 370nm.

2) They change various things in different engines, not sure how much has changed in the TDi engine but quite a bit is different in the TSI engine.

3) If you considered the tiguan for its space and ability to be child friendly you should maybe have another look.
From all the tigs i have seen there isn't a lot of boot space at all.
The vortex forum has heaps of complaintas that the boot isn't big enough to hold child related items.

Bahhh! Just don't have kids LOL I think the lack of bootspace issue in the Tig is a bit of a storm in a tea cup actually. If you have one kid and use the splitfold rear seat you'd have plenty of room, people being a bit precious IMO.

I agree with you Pullstarter.
I don't really see it being an issue for me at all and i haven't personally experienced it.

However there have been a lot of complaints on vortex (both threads and replies) about the lack of boot space.
If you have 1 kid it should be fine but apparently its a tight squeeze with 2, especailly if you have other things you need to take with you.
I guess that is why they made roof-racks standard - to give you extra storage space.

The new BMW X1 and the new Audi Q3 coming out next year apparently have addressed this issue and are longer/slightly larger to give more boot room so obviously the companies have realised this too.


But, if you only have 1 kid and use the split-fold rear seat you should have no problems with space.

There's definitely a new philosophy in peoples minds about having bigger cars these days. I remember when i was a kiddy (bloody long time ago!! ) There was 5 of us in a MK2 Cortina with no complaints whatsoever. I think it's a bit of a status thing these days too.

You're dead right Pullstarter. My Dad's first new car was a 1958 Austin A55 Cambridge and we used to go on holiday 5 up and towing a 15 foot caravan. As a kid I thought it was great and only recently did I see an A55 and it's TINY in comparison to todays cars !!!!!! (no wonder it took us "days" to get anywhere it was only a 1500cc A series motor !!!) Just like houses (I'm an Architectural Designer), they all used to be 100m2 (1000ft2) and now there's hardly anything under 250m2 !!

Let's face it, if you want more space you get a bigger vehicle like a Touareg. You can't please ALL the people ALL of the time and the Tiguan is the perfect size for me and most of its owners. It's all a non-event.

I actually do think the boot is way too small in a Tiguan. ATM we have a gen2 RAV4 as well (until the R20T arrives ) and it has a much larger boot; it has less interior space though.

If you have a large family (3 kids) a Tiguan is going to be problems. I'd happily go away with the RAV4 for a week but don't think I can fit all that I need to in the Tig. I will need a roofpod or a trailer to be OK. (I can actually only get 60% of what I can fit in the RAV into the Tig)

For the purpose we bought it for, its fine, but it is no family car for long trips with lots of luggage I'm afraid (unless you add a roofpod or a trailer.)

Well anybody who wanted a family car for trips with a lot of luggage would be a tosser to buy one wouldn't they. That's my point, presumably you buy vehicles to suit your needs, not moan that you've got something that isn't big enough. The Tig is the size it is and that's IT, it's either big enough for you or it isn't, if it isn't don't buy one DUH.

The answer it "almost but not quite"...
The Tiguan TDI engine is newer than the Golf V TDI engines (comon rail vs pump duse), and the chip is slightly different to suit the different injection system.
If you look at DP Chip's website, http://www.dpchip.com/vehicles.html?...51862076221028 you will see that the DP37 chip (used in Touareg R5 & V10, and Golf V 1.9 & 2.0 litre) has been replaced with the DP31 model chip suited to the common rail injection system. I expect that the other chip manufacturers (and ECU re-mappers) have changed in a similar way.
I have a DP37 off my Touareg that I will probably put in the missus's Golf as it won't go into my Q5, even though it is a 2.0TDI. The Q5, like the Tig, needs the DP31.

BTW, most of the initial comments when the Tig was released about the boot being too small were dissipated when the back-seat adjustment was tried out. Small kids in the back seat mean seat can be slid forward, and the boot isn't too bad at all. This is only my observation from seeing a number of threads on the issue, owners can report more accurately.....

you're right there, I agree 100%.

For a family of four with both kids walking and out of nappies it has the room.

If the Tig was reversed with less interior space and a bigger boot, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I actually think the Tig's interior dimensions are close to perfect. Certainly the best in the class IMO and it's the first thing that people comment on when they get inside (then they comment on the comfort).

IIRC around $1200, but that was 3 years ago...
Your local TJM shop will sell you one, probably can be talked into fitting it and letting you try for a few days - you won't want to give it back and so you'll buy it! (That was DP chip, from TJM Newcastle)
