Option1Garage quotexd me very competitive pricing for the Kumho KU31's.

I got them with my wheels for $200 each which as very good.
Haven't had a problem with them and would use them again.

Hey team_v, I'm still looking for 19" tyres for my S5 Reps.

Not many choices really in 245/45R19 whether here or overseas!

So might just go with sourcing KU31s locally.

But can I just ask whether the $200 per corner you mentioned was for this size? If so, then how long ago was this?

As I've done the rounds and everybody's doing them for around $250.

I was told $200 from tempe back in June when i ordered my wheels/tyres in this size.

Option1 quoted me $200 but i believe this was for a 255/40R19 which wasn't load/speed rated for the Tig.

$250 is still pretty reasonable though.
I would see if you can knock them down to $200 or if you get a discount from being a member or some motoring group.
Also see if they have any other options cheap (i know some Bob Jane places up here were doing deals on Michelin Pilot Sport PS3's a month ago)

Yep ... thanks mate! Unfortunately, the extra loading is costing $50 more.

Nah like I said ... very limited selection in the size we're talking about.
Certainly got no hits (Michelins) when doing a TireRack search in that size.
So don't think they do them.

Check out carbonblack.com.au as they have a good comparison chart for australia.
Also might be best to note the stock wheel/tyre sizes and load/speed ratings and let your local tyre place know these so they can find other sizes whcich you wouldn't have otherwise known of.

Quick Q for those running 19's: A few of you are running 245/45R19, right? Just curious to know (if you have a GPS to compare speed) what speed you are ACTUALLY sitting on, say, at around 100kph? When i'm on the freeway & set my cruise to 105, the GPS is right on 100. Stock Bostons.
The reason i ask is while out tyre shopping today (for new wheels on their way!), the tyre dude (from his sizing book) advised that 245/40R19 would be the way to go to keep with the same rolling circumference as stock.
I'm looking at the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, ATM... Any feedback on these appreciated.

The stock wheels is giving you that 5kph margin of error @ 100kph.

Definitely the larger rolling circumference with 245/45R19 (as compared to 235/55R17) corrects and aligns the speedo more to the "true speed", which I have assumed is correct on the MFD.

But even if both ain't the true speed, at least the needle and MFD are consistent when you look down at the dash.

Mind you, it's still (I reckon) about +2kph out at certain speeds on the needle. But close enough at around 60kph (or suburban speeds).

Can't help with the 245/45, but I'm running 19" 245/40 and my speedo reads around the same as yours (maybe a bit higher).

Your tyre guy right with 245/40R19 for the Tig - correct size for Tig running /45R19's would be 255/45R19.

The Bridgestones are awesome too. Had them on the Tig - wouldn't hesitate recommending them.

Thanks, Clip. I got the trusty calculator out yesterday & came up with a couple of unverified stat's: The 245/45 would have an 11 or 12mm larger radius than a 245/40, which equates to 7 extra cm circumference, which would bring the speedo down to 1 or 2 over being correct, as mentioned by Aussietig...
As for the Bridgestone, BJ's have them for the same price as the KU31's for Feb. They're an asymmetrical tyre. I reckon i'll give em a go...

Oh, & as for "Tyres- what did you get?", my stock 16's came with Pirelli's, they seem pretty good, have hardly worn at all with 11000 on them & will be just stored in the garage & used on some upcoming road trips!

Just thought I'd share that I'm about to replace the 235/55/17 Bridgestone Duelers that originally came with my 147 (I purchased on Friday). They have done 49,800 kms and whilst they probably have about 4,000 to 5,000 kms left in the rubber there is a noticeable drummy sound when decelerating at low speeds. From what I can tell from the tyre places I've visited today, it is due to the previous owner not doing regular wheel alignments. So not sure whether to purchase the same tyres again or try something else.

Based on the earlier posts, I called Tempe Tyres re: the KU31's, but they don't have any left, just Pirelli Scorpions. Anyone have any feedback how their Scorpion's are wearing/performing?

The other options at this stage are Cooper CS4's (apparently come with a guarantee of 70,000 kms).

Any other brands that I should be considering/avoiding from your personal experience?

I would go with the Cooper CS4, recentlly fitted Cooper tyres to our Touareg and like them. Haven't said that, almost 50,000km from the Bridgestopnes is OK, you could do much worst. My second option would be the Bridgestone and the 3rd Pirelli.

Shawno , I recently replaced the Bridgestone Duelers (235/55/17) on my car. I found the the choice was almost driven by availabilty of tyres. For some reason its an odd size that doesn`t seem to be easily available .

Repacement Bridgestones , 3 or 4 odd tyres spread throughout AU , Bridgestone Tyre outlet couldnt confirm when more would be available.
Continental , $450 ea , available some time next year.
Dunlop Sport , Discontinued ?
Pirelli or Michelin , $550 ea Didnt go there .

Ended up with Yokahama Advan Sport , After 1 K couldn`t be happier.

...and it was a wise choice. My van has also 235/55/17tyres and Michelin Pilot Premacy were on it from new. I can only say that T5er's were lucky to get 25,000km out of them, I've done I think 37,500km, rotating every 5,000km and frequently checking the tyre pressure.

Hankooks are good and around $240, and I wouldn't get Kumho Solus KH15 again, (currently on my T5 and will not last 20,000km).

any of these that are for T5 have much higher load rating and should last longer on Tiguan. My next T5 tyres will be Maxxis. They should last longer and are less than $200.
