Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan breakdown - battery light, loss of power and engine noise

    Hey all,

So we purchased a (used) 2012 2.0TSI DSG Tiguan with 84,000km a week ago and everything was looking pretty good.

Yesterday out of nowhere the we were driving it near home down a hill and the engine light came on, car lost power and we coasted into a side street. Upon trying to restart the car the engine ran loud and there was some grinding noise from the alternator area then the car stalled. The battery tested good.

I appears like the alternator has failed but i noticed the cap on the climate system compressor was half popped off after whatever disaster had just unfolded.

Car has been towed to our mechanic to get the statutory warranty process underway but was wondering if anyone had experienced something similar and had thoughts on what it may be...

    Cheers!

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

Hey Brad, thanks for posting. Heard from the workshop this morning. Turned out to be an intermittent failure on the AC compressor. Now the battle to get that covered under statutory used car warranty begins!
