  • I drove to Melbourne yesterday in the MY18 and used TJA. It does not show as a separate line item when you press in the left stalk to select drivers assists - its part of ACC. The car comes to a complete stop fine and if the traffic then starts to crawl it follows the car in front. I found it works really well around walking pace 3-5 km/h keeping up with car in front.

If the car in front pulls away suddenly then stops, the only thing I would say is perhaps TJA uses a bit too much throttle than I normally would to make up the gap but thats just personal preference.

When the car stops completely, the dash says ACC ready to resume and it moves off again by itself.

When the car stops completely for more than 3-4 seconds (didn't count) then I had to press RES

    • That's just ACC, TJA also steers the car,

      • The car steered itself as well.

Ouch! No wonder it's guarded so well!

Yup, to be exact; it's 433 euro's including tax. (645,- AUS Dollar)
And it's all software, that's for sure as Hugo got it enabled by a dealer without hardware fitting.

And not even once, but twice. My partner and I bought identical Tigs (except for colour) and had software done a day apart...both have TJA.

Do you know how long it takes? Or did you just drop the car off and come back later?

Each car was done same day.

You are a lucky guy, it seems you are the only person in the world who got it activated .
I Can test my new Tiguan next Wednesday if it has TJA because it's an MY18 build without buying it for 433 euro's.
If that is the case, the option will probably disappear from the brochures but it isn't updated yet.

I dont know the specifics. The cars were dropped at the dealer in the morning and were ready by 1pm. The service manager did mention that it was the first time they were performing this update, and that the cars would be taken on a test drive once the update had been completed.

                          • Here is page 193 of MY18 RHD AUS manual showing TJA is now an extension of lane assist and ACC (there is another section saying similar about Pedestrian detection now part of Front Assist). Page 35 shows the line items for Driver Assist push button. I drove for a good 5 minutes in a jam with it keeping up with crawling traffic / stopped and started about 5 times, steered itself. Only had to press RES once or twice for long stops.

                              MY17 manual is the same.

As I said I still think it is a SWaP option that would need to be enabled by VW but would love to be proven wrong. Do have to say that since it still doesn't remove the 3 second limitation I'm not that disappointed that I haven't been able to get it going.
