  • Whoa, no need to attack me. I did, in fact, confirm that the 3-second rule still applies to my car. See post #251 and #253...

Also, I have not been in stop and go traffic on the motorway since purchasing the Tig so I have no way to comment on the 12-second limit on the ALG in stop and go conditions. It is, however, still in place when driving in normal traffic conditions.

    • My apologies, it is hard to write stuff sometimes that does not appear confratational but the overall point of my post still stands. No one who has had TJA for some months has reported back on how it works in real life and there is more than one car out there. Some of the notable posters that were here appear to no longer be part of the conversation as you have continued to be after their cars were delivered and at least one has not commented and he was most vocal on the subject so perhaps his expectations were not met either. Again I apologise for the tone of my previous post but I could think of no other way to word it. I am going to unsubscribe form this thread as there does not seem any point in following it any longer.

So that would mean 4 conditions need to be met for TJA to activate:
        1. ACC on and active
        2. Adaptive Lane Assist on and lanes detected
        3. Following/traffic speed <60kph/38mph
        4. Vehicle in front present (presumably there is a range/max distance

I must say IÂ’m not sold on the steering assistance. It tends to wander out of the lane from time to time and freaks out the cars around me. ItÂ’s hard work for me playing chicken with the Lane Assist and not intervene... in the interest of learning the system limitations.
It seems to be geared towards avoiding serious injury accidents, and appears it would do a great job of that, but itÂ’s not necessarily up to avoiding every bingle.
Same with the ACC breaking down to zero. A couple of instances (say, 5% of the time) it seems a little late to brake for my liking.
ThereÂ’s no way you can let your attention wander... at least further than the infotainment system or AID.
What I do enjoy very much is flipping on the ACC in any traffic delays and just keeping my foot close to the brake in case. It makes traffic jams slightly more relaxing. And probably easier on the DSG clutch pack than if I was on and off the throttle/break.

Curious if others think so too...
Looking forward to hearing from the MY17 guys getting theirs enabled... fingers crosssed for you guys, good luck!
I've read on an Audi forum that two cars are required; one car within 2 car lengths in front and one car next to you in an adjoining lane. Once these conditions are met then the 12 seconds hands on the steering wheel time is extended. I have a MY17 S3 which I hope to enable TJA on, so following this forum with interest.

That's a different beast - Traffic Jam Pilot (level 3 autonomy) as opposed to Traffic Jam Assist lesser level autonomy.

I agree, but it does mention one important thing about level two Traffic Jam Assist, which is the best we could expect from the Tiguan, or any current car (with the exception of the A. That is that with level two systems your hands must remain on the wheel. It is an assistance system, not an autopilot.

              • I've been following the commentary on TJA with interest but thinking whilst it's always nicer to have a feature than not have it, it won't really make much difference to me as I don't drive in stop-start traffic very often (I change my travel times to avoid it). Until yesterday.

Yesterday I spent 45 minutes crawling along the Monash Freeway or I should say the car spent 45 minutes crawling. I did practically nothing. It was the most relaxing time I've ever spent driving in stop-start traffic. The difference in concentration required was amazing and I arrived at my destination feeling quite relaxed.

                      • You won't see TJA as such but you will know you have it when the right circumstances exist - having ACC and LA/ALG operating while being surrounded in slow moving, multiple lane traffic. Most common way to test if you have it would be on peak hour freeway traffic - the dashboard ACC and Lane Assist indicators should both be green when travelling under 60kmh if it's working.

ACC is def green, but havent seen lane assist indicators go green, only ever seen it orange when something is in my blind spot pretty much (this is on side mirrors right?)

sorry not use to all this fancy tech, never had it before, scared ill lose this keys too with all this touch stuff

                          • The orange lights on the mirrors are side assist, the lane assist indicator is on the AID next to the ACC indicator

Haven't had a chance to use it in a real gridlock, but can confirm I have adaptive Lane Guidance (steers for up to 12s even at highway speeds). Can't agree more with Hugo_nz's characterisation "freaky as"!
