  • Just dropped my MY17 for its first scheduled service. I asked them if TJA can be adapted to match MY18, the guy said he'll check and get back to me.

    Let's see how it goes.

The response was that Traffic notifications can't be enabled in Australia (face-palm)

When I explained to the gentleman what TJA is, he went back to the engineers and came with a confirmation that it's a hardware thing.

      • All evidence would suggest he is wrong as then same generation of car has been done in NZ.

        • its just a shame that VWA dont even offer it as a SWAP option (if that's what it is) especially given VWNZ are doing it

          • I discussed with a dealer and pointed out that optional coding such as TJA could be done after sale for a reasonable fee and in fact VW were preventing the dealers making money.

            • I got in contact with those guy’s from the youtube TJA “proof” again.
Asked them if it’s possible to code my Tiguan if I make the trip in October. Guess what, he’s telling me it needs way more testing before doing any other cars and he’s just not willing to share anything not even if I sign a contract for it. (As he needs more testing to be done on more cars I offered to do mine and sign an NDA for it) but nothing, nada. No possibilities at all.

              • Hi all, Giltrap Prestige here in Auckland have confirmed they can enable this on my Tig. It's booked in for next Tuesday. Anyone want to do a scan before I take it in? Cheers

                    • So the thread knows — will be catching up with NZ_GolfR on Monday for the scan (and presumably after too). Will share the results.

                      • Can you ask the service advisor what software is needed to do this upgrade please. He likely won't know and a tech will have to provide the answers. Thanks.

What I did notice is in urban areas, and single lane roads, the markings are not as clearly delineated in Sydney and it freaks out and asks me to take over... intersections and turning lanes in particular.
did some playing today, at 10mph (16kph) it did in fact ask me to take over steering after 12 seconds in traffic, but if the car in front broke down to 0 then sped back up a few times it didn't seem to, in the UK it seems to be 38mph (61kph),

Yes, you are right. I’ve begun to suspect that TJA also needs to see a car in front, otherwise it asks me to take over steering under 60kph.
So that would mean 4 conditions need to be met for TJA to activate:
                            1. ACC on and active
                            2. Adaptive Lane Assist on and lanes detected
                            3. Following/traffic speed <60kph/38mph
                            4. Vehicle in front present (presumably there is a range/max distance

I must say I’m not sold on the steering assistance. It tends to wander out of the lane from time to time and freaks out the cars around me. It’s hard work for me playing chicken with the Lane Assist and not intervene... in the interest of learning the system limitations.
It seems to be geared towards avoiding serious injury accidents, and appears it would do a great job of that, but it’s not necessarily up to avoiding every bingle.
Same with the ACC breaking down to zero. A couple of instances (say, 5% of the time) it seems a little late to brake for my liking.
There’s no way you can let your attention wander... at least further than the infotainment system or AID.
What I do enjoy very much is flipping on the ACC in any traffic delays and just keeping my foot close to the brake in case. It makes traffic jams slightly more relaxing. And probably easier on the DSG clutch pack than if I was on and off the throttle/break.

Curious if others think so too...
Looking forward to hearing from the MY17 guys getting theirs enabled... fingers crosssed for you guys, good luck!

                            • The more I see of what TJA can't do the less advantage it presents for me. When I started my campaign I presumed it totally managed the car under 60kph but it seems to me to do nothing of the sort. It does not remove the 3 second delay, the 12 second delay is still there so all it is is ACC enabled under 60kph. if it totally took over the car as I thought it should and did then I am all for it, as it stands it is hardly worth all the hoopla to get it working IMHO.

I feel the same which is why I haven’t played around more with trying to get it activated. I am hopefully going to get some scans of dmnz car before and after it gets enabled for him which we will share but I don’t see too much advantage of it at the moment.
