  • 2017 Tiguan Recall - Weld fault on front seats in affected group of 707 cars

VW Australia have issued a recall for the 2017 model Tiguan. Only 707 of the total models sold in Australia have been affected by this fault. Statement on the ACC website:
The laser welded seam on the front seat backrests may not have been correctly configured during production, which may impact on the strength of the welded connection.
    The hazards are that it
could potentially lead to injuries sustained by the vehicle occupants in the event of a serious rear collision.

VW will be mailing all current owners of vehicles affected.

VIN list published on the ACCC site here

Wow. Thankfully I just checked my VIN and it's not on the list. Hope it doesn't impact too many of our forum members.

I don't think this is a big deal - if your VIN is on the list then take it in and have it resolved. Recalls are pretty common for new models.

        You're kidding right?

True, all new models suffer teething problems (engine problems, electrical) but major flaws like a weld seam? I wouldn't downplay the seriousness of.

Thankfully VW have promptly highlighted it and it's been published on all major media outlets, but I thought I'd publish it here for all members to be fully aware of.

it doesnt say there is a fault with the weld seam, it says there MAY be one. Its possible that during a QC audit of actual weld records they've found some anomalous figure. It doesnt necessarily mean theres a problem at all with the actual weld.
