  • Mine was under two weeks. I guess it depends how close to the end of the month it is and whether your salesman needs to hit his quota for the month.

Mine was delivered last day of April.

    • My 162tsi Rline was delivered 2 days ago. My experience so far has been exceptional. My previous SUV's include top of the range 2014 Hyundai IX35 and top of the range 2015 Xtrail ti.

In all fairness the Tiguan is around 10k more expensive than my previous SUV's but it really is worlds apart from both the aesthetics and also the driving experience. I have driven many 100k+ cars and the Tiguan's fit and finish is up there with them.

Im still getting used to the quirks of driving a VW for the first time but im a guy that likes a spirited drive and the 162tsi performs beautifully. The power delivery is great and the gearbox is smooth. I even tried the launch control and must say it put a big smile on my face.

Compared To the Xtrail, the slight lag on take off is noticeable but not to a point it is annoying. The Xtrail being 2.5lt non turbo had instant drive from a stand still, the Tiguan needs a good mash of the go pedal before it gets of the line.

All the tech in the Tiguan is a step above my previous cars as it should be, but there isn't much missing from the Tiguan that is in some cars that are asking double the price of Tiguan. The Digital dash is great, well laid out and has everything you need at your finger tips on the sexy steering wheel.

Kids love the rear swing out trays for their iPads, rear climate control for the rear passengers is something that wasn't in my previous cars also. Good size boot but feels a little smaller than the Xtrail with the rear seats in the furthest back position. I got a foam liner that is ok but probably better to go the rubber/plastic version.

I also got the rear window VW blinds for the kids. They love it with very little sun getting through no more complaints about sun in their eyes. I didn't know this option included a blind for the rear windscreen which was a bonus but not sure if it will stay as it's a little hard to see out the back, I may get used to it.

I got the genuine VW towbar and it is a very neat install. Hard to spot it with the tongue out which I like. VW roof racks also fitted which look very good quality and easy to remove. I also ordered a rear protection strip for the top of the rear bumper that the dealer messed up and didn't fit it. They fitted the door sill Rline covers as a mistake and they will fit the bumper protector at the first service.

I got standard NSW black and white number plates. I didn't like the large stick on foam that was designed to go under the larger euro plates on the rear door so I trimmed the foam so it now stops under the plate. The foam looks to have the cut already in it from the factory so I dare say the dealers are supposed to trim this depending on the size of the plates. Anyway was very easy to remove and quick wipe with wax and grease remover got rid of any glue residue.

I've only done around 300 kms so far and extremely happy with my purchase. Plenty still to learn and play with. Over the next few months I will be trying out all the different driving settings. As most of my driving consists of long FWY driving I think comfort will be selected with sport setting when I feel like having some fun in the twisties!

      Cheers,
      Brad.

        • Have any of those who have received their 162's, done any experiments with the fuel i.e. 95 vs 98 Ron and is there any difference?

              • If you want to be cheap add E10 and don't rev it past 3000 rpm or only use part throttle.

Save heaps on petrol but that is not why you bought the Tiguan was it?

Nope, would have stuck to the diesel if that was the big driver. Was a genuine does it make that much difference question, and as the answer is yes, then 98 it is. Not had a petrol car for many years and certainly not a modern generation turbo model.

                  • On its way

If a few planets align I'll have mine next week. Not much compared to the bigger options, but on paper streets ahead of the 2009 Corolla Ascent it's replacing I'd say:

                    • 110TSI Comfortline
                    • 6-Speed DSG
                    • Pure White
                    • Mirror Package
                    • DAP

I got this on lease for my wife so it won't be my daily driver. DAP was essential, looking at pricing options compared to other brands, that's what led me here. The Corolla has been a rock of reliability, but it isn't a great driving car in many ways (safe, reliable, reasonably comfortable, but lacking in a lot of mod cons). Her commute to work is 20mins in a 100K zone and another 15mins or so in builtup areas. The 100K zone is kind of okay depending on the time you leave, but often it's driving behind variable speed traffic which drives me (all of us) mad when using cruise all the time. I think my wife will really appreciate the ability to set ACC and just relax a bit rather than always being ready to hit the brakes and creep back up to speed only to rinse and repeat. The auto parking will make life easier for her along with auto braking and the 360 pano camera view (which I think we will get with this).

I won't get to drive it much at all, but I'll certainly be testing it out. Sadly I think other than power-wise and maybe handling it'll be streets ahead of my 2006 320D which I do like a lot. My only concern really is how accessible all the features are going to be, what kind of learning curve is involved in really getting the best out of the car. My wife likes things to 'just work' so I hope there are not too many poking around in ever-deepening menus involved. Other brands simply did not stack up to the quality, options and price that this vehicle offers, I was open to anything though the baseline was a mid size hatch. No brainer really

                    • Jokes aside. If you look at some of the power curves produced by stage 1 and 2 ECU remapping the difference in absolute power developed across the rev range is only a few Kw (~5). This would not be noticed in daily driving.

So in answer to your original question. There is a difference but you would be hard pressed to actually feel the difference.

                      • When it comes to fuel the 162 is tuned for 98 Ron, with high performance engines, a higher octane rating makes fuel less volatile. This makes it less prone to pre-ignition which is also known as knock or pinging. That's the rattling sound a engine makes when the fuel in the combustion chamber detonates spontaneously before the piston reaches the right position, on another note 98 has additional additives that lubes the engine and prevents build up of carbon etc..

When I first picked up the car it was pinging, I suspect the dealer filled it up with 95. I've been filling up with 98 and no ping.

Apparently 98 Ron makes very little difference. Not worth paying for it.

                            • Hi Sharp

Pinging only occurs under heavy load. If it was pinging, one possibility is that the dealer accidentally put in 91 ron.

I would think that the ECU would be smart enough to retard the ignition timing to stop the pinging when the knock sensor registered the pinging.

The follow on question is under what conditions were you hearing the pinging?

I have heard pinging in my turboed Celica under full load and around 6000 rpm. It was very loud like loose nuts and bolts rattling around in a steel drum.

When my engine is cold it sounds very agricultural. This could be a bit of piston slap that goes away when the engine is at normal operating temperature.

As has been mentioned previously; unless you are competing in a car race or street light races the 162 TSI engine does not need 98 ron. The ECU has been programmed to use 95 ron. Using 98 is just wasting money. But it's your money and if you feel there is a benefit and you are willing to pay for it then go for it.

                              Regards
                              David

                              • If you have a look at your fuel filler flap it will tell you. There's a large 98 (recommended fuel) and a small 95 (fuel you can use in an emergency until you can get some 98 ).

If you talk to any VW service centre or Customer Care they will tell you to run it on 98. 95 octane fuel can be a bit hit and miss in terms of fuel quality and you can get a bad batch with lower octane and then have pinging/detonation. This is bad and can destroy your engine.

Also if your engine dies and you have a tank full of 95 you could well have warranty voided if they link it to poor fuel quality.

For the couple of cents/litre just fill up with 98 and you won't have a problem.
