Does anyone know for sure that the new Tiguan R line can have a towbar? Also does anyone have any details on the ground clearance for the R Line model?
In Germany, where I'm at the moment, I've just ordered the R-line with a towbar this morning, can't say for Oz.
As for the ground clearance - R-line seems to be just a little lower than standard, but if you get the 4motion version, then it's again a little higher, so it might work out to be the same. Sorry, can't help with this precisely. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP57...youtu.be&t=152 )
Any car can have a tow bar, there is photos of Lamborghinis and Ferraris with tow bars.
The tow bar that we will be able to get wont be the fold out one like in germany, it will be one made by an Australian company. It may not be available yet but they will be available soon
The R-line has a different rear bumper so it'll need a different treatment. Usually it takes a little while as VWA needs a car locally to run all the test fitments of "local" accessories. If there's not already a removable section of the rear bumper then there will (likely) need to be a section cut to fit the hitch through.
You'll have to wait until closer to the time. It sounds like the 162TSI R-line may even have a slightly different rear bumper to the 140TDI R-line... but that's all rumour until the cars arrive here.
also i'm not a 100% on what other benefits are there for paying $4k for r-line:
colour coded side skirting & bumpers
special exhaust tips
20" rims
rear roof spoiler
side sills
R labeling on head rests?
adaptive chasis control?
waht else?
Adaptive chassis control
Alloy wheels (Suzuka) 20x8.5" with 255/40 R20 tyres
Black headlining and pillar trim
Carpet floor mats and centre armrest with decorative stitching in Crystal Grey
Chrome tail pipe trims
Decorative inlays, "Black Lead Grey" to dashboard and door trims
Design strip with R-Line logo on the front side panels and front doors
Front bumper in R design with gloss black air intakes
Lower body side extensions in body colour with black grained wheel arch extensions
Progressive steering
Rear bumper with sports diffuser in gloss black
R-Line badge in radiator grille
R-Line logo on infotainment start screen
R-Line multi-function leather covered sports steering wheel with decorative stitching in Crystal Grey and R-Line logo
R-Line rear spoiler
Stainless steel finish accelerator and brake pedals
Stainless steel finish front door sill scuff plates with R-Line logo, illuminated
Vienna leather appointed seat upholstery for R-Line with R-Line logo and decorative stitching in Crystal Grey
For me the most important are Progressive Steering, Adaptive Chassis Control and the Sports Steering Wheel.

Many thanks!
Yes the new rline can have a tow bar fitted. The one on my rline is a vertical bar so barely has any cutting of the plastics and the bottom of the bar sits higher then the bottom of the car so isn't the lowest point.

Would you mind posting a few pics please?

Cheers Beowulf..looks really neat... I'm guessing you're well pleased with the job?
Yeah all in all pleased, it's looks quite nice in person and the bar looks quite nicely made, bonus was that it didn't kill the rear bar as I've seen on other cars.
I was a bit surprised when I saw that it was an official vw Aus bar designed and made in New Zealand. Not bagging the nz just was expecting a bar from nsw or vic etc.
