Some amazing wheels in this thread.

As a 162 tsi owner (non R line) with 18s stock, what size exactly Tyres and Rims do I want in a 20 inch wheel to keep close to stock rolling D.

And also how much drop do I need to half the stock 18s wheel gap. Thanks heaps

There's the good and bad all posted up without comment so that you can make your own mind up. Wheel selection is a very personal thing and it's one of the easiest ways to customise your car from an aesthetic point of view. Unfortunately I don't have specs on a lot of these, however for the genuine wheels you can probably work out what size/offsets they are running as there's generally only a couple of options.

Stock tyre sizes in 20" are 235/45R20 (on 20x8 Kapstadt) and 255/40R20 (on 20x8.5 Suzuka).

However keep in mind that you'll need at least an 8.5" width rim to fit the 255 otherwise the bead may not seat properly in the lip of the rim and you will have more distortion/flex in the sidewall when cornering. A lot of tyre shops won't fit incorrect size tyres in case there is an accident an the cause is related back to incorrectly fitted tyres.

Personally I'd be going for an 8.5"-9" rim and run the 255/40R20 tyres as this is a more common size.

In terms of offsets because you run the standard (non R-line) wheel arch trims then you're a little more restricted in terms of aggressive offsets. My recommendation (based on experience) is to go 20x9 +35 or 20x8.5 +29 for near flush fitment.

If you're running the R-line wheel arches you can probably push the offsets another 8-10mm and still be "safe".

I'm running the Eibach Pro-Kit (30mm drop) and I think they look good. I know H&R's do some 35 or 40mm drop however you will sacrifice some ride comfort for the extra 5-10mm. There's a number of guys from the US running stock Golf R springs and they lower it quite a bit more but then you'll more than likely significantly shorten the life of your shocks. Also not sure you'd want to do this with adjustable dampers.

              • Awesome - great tips there.

Might go for a 20x9 wheel!

Yes if you didn't want to go with the 20x8 Kapstadt's then a 20x9 +35 with 255/40R20 is the spec you'll want. Here's what this fitment looks like:

Just remember that this is with 235/45R20 tyres which are stretched on these so when you run 255/40R20 there will be some more tyre sidewall/rim protection that will poke a bit. Unfortunately I swapped over the stock rubber from my Kapstadts onto these HRE FF15's rather than getting new tyres so I don't have any pics with 255/40 but I think there's still enough space to have them sit within the guard by a few mm.

Pictures are lowered on Eibach springs with 30mm lowering.

                  • The lowering looks great. I got told at the Tyre shop today that the springs in the Tiguan are short from factory so you don’t want to drop these too much.. 30mm seemed to be the consensus, despite me preferring 40mm+.

That offset you are on the money too - perfect!

Specs on wheels? They look a bit like Brixton PF8’s

                              • R-line runs a 255/40R20 which is "standard" gen2 Tiguan fitment.

If you were to fit 255/45R20 this would make the speedo out by 3.5% which is not recommended: Compare 240/40R20 to 245/45R20 willtheyfit.com
