  • There must about to be a big influx of cars, mine is on the Liberty, just left Fremantle and heading to Melbourne - Port Kembla - Brisbane, so many different boats with so many new Tiguans on them. Liberty due into Brisbane on the 25th November. I'm hoping for a pre-Christmas delivery.

          • Who else has fitted the Lakin full Euro sized bracket to their Tiguan.

Brighton Volkswagen have stated that it is not possible to fit the front Lakin bracket as
            1) the holes do no match
            2) there are no threaded inserts in the bumper

            • Hi guys, I'm considering buying Tiguan 162TSI Highline with R-Line and DAP. It was never in my list as Subaru Forester XT or Outback was always on my top choice due to longest running vechicle and off road capability. But I test drove Tiguan last weekend and loved the driving experience. My question is how you did find Tiguan's off road capability? Is it comparable to Subaru Forester?

I’ve got the full sized euro rear and the dealer fitted it and asked where I got it from because they said it was amazingly easy to fit.

Can’t speak for the front one as I simply used the standard plate holder as the plate fits perfectly in it

I have the Lakin plates as I have kept them from my GTI and can confirm that the holes do not match unless you want to drill more holes into your front bumper or alternatively drill new holes into the Lakin mount plate.

I have fitted Kingpin plates to front and back and aren’t satisfied with them. They don’t look anywhere near as slimline as the Lakin.

I have already replied to a PM about this, but thought I would also reply here for the benefit of others.

The whole idea of Lakin brackets is they fit the factory holes, so you don't have to make new holes in the bumper. Both my front and back Lakin brackets do as they are designed and do it very well.

All VW's are not the same when it comes to mounting holes. I also remember that Philip had different order options depending on whether or not you had an R-Line. I don't know if this was because the holes were different or something else.

For example, I couldn't use my Gen 1 Lakin brackets with my new Gen 2 Tiguan as the mounting hole positions had changed - both front and rear. I didn't clarify whether you are trying to use Gen 1 brackets? If so, that is your problem right there.

If you have received new brackets from Philip, either he stuffed up your order (which I would doubt), the dealer has tried installing the plates on the wrong end (they are clearly labeled front and rear - so this would be stupid) or perhaps VW changed the mounting holes again for MY18 for which Philip was unaware (you wouldn't expect this in a yearly update).

I wasn't asked about your second point in the PM. Philip provides plugs which go in the factory holes. You then screw the brackets into these plugs. So I'm not sure what they are telling you about needing "threaded inserts", as these plugs should be supplied in your package. PM me again if you need more details.

                    • Hey guys, newbie here, I’ve ordered a tiguan132tsi with driver n luxury package. Estimate delivery was 30th November and now it’s gone to mid January. I am in Sydney and the dealer has sent me the tracking screenshot, however without being stupid I am totally unable to understand it.

                      • What I'm seeing there is that it's on the Morning Caroline and it due to be offloaded at Port Kembla on 26 December. With holidays, compliance and pre delivery that would be consistent with a mid Jan pick up date from the dealer.

Oh cheers, I was under the assumption dealer has just given a random number when I read the cargo I’d and thought the NZ in there meant it was for NZ. Thanks

                          • Ahhh that would be confusing. Parts of the VIN translate like this - WVG is a SUV, ZZZ is Australian, 5N indicates a Tiguan and the Z is a filler digit, J is the 2018 model year indicator.

                              • Been 5 days with my new 162tsi Tiguan. Non R line. Thought I'd share some thoughts as others have done.

Firstly I don't regret not getting the R line. Maybe missing the Panoramic Roof a bit but not too fussed. Even without the R the car looks fantastic. Much better in person than in pictures. I've been getting heaps of compliments on how great it looks. Another reason for the compliment is the colour. I went for Tungsten silver and it's awesome. It's like a silver with grey shades and again have received great feedback from numerous people on the colour.

As for the interior, it's definitely high quality and the digital active info display blends superbly with the full touch infotainment. It has a wow factor as soon as you look inside. Leather seats are super comfy. Ambient lighting is a great touch, adds class.

The drive itself is entertaining too. Very smooth and no body roll in turns. It's a quiet cabin that feels solid! No issues with start stop. No issues with automatic tailgate with foot movement. ACC works great. Lane assist is superb too, you barely hold the steering wheel and it helps glide the car. I haven't tested Park assist yet. Sports mode is super fun to drive, but will take it easy in the early days.

I absolutely love the LEDs and dynamic cornering lights. It's amazing on the roads. Lights up dark places really well.

Android auto and Apple carplay are also pending testing.

These are some of my first impressions and must say that the wait has been worth it!!
