Depends on which vessel it catches - its all about timing. Average is 42-46 days to get from Bremerhaven (Germany) to Melbourne. However mine caught the express and only has 2 ports of call before it gets to Melbourne so in total 32 days on the water.

If you know approximately when yours will exit the production plant you should add about a week before it gets on a ship. You can check to see which ones are departing by using this website: https://schedule.2wglobal.com/ScheduleRWD/ you need to type in Bremerhaven as your departing port and Melbourne as the arriving port - it will give you an indication the possible ships it might be on and the duration.

I did receive 2 emails from VWG Australia stating that my Tiguan is being built and then shipped (on the water). I received the VIN number from my dealer and have tracked it to Port Kembla. (docked 5:00 am Tuesday 21st Feb)

But silence from then. I emailed my dealer to find she is on annual leave until the end of Feb.

As I do not expect it's delivery before the end of Feb I am still patient.

Also it gives me time to be active on this forum learning lots of interesting info. [emoji106] [emoji106]

The ship carrying our Tigs Talisman docked @ Port Melbourne 5.30pm Sat 18 Jan according to marinetraffic and I got a call @ end of today from my dealer to inform me that my Tig has already been complied and should be on VWG Aus stock tomorrow or monday!
Looking at late next week for delivery! yahhh
Its extra good news as I was initially told to be prepared for a 3 weeks wait
.. your delivery could be very close to mine as well!

The production process seems to take about a month. Mine was handed to production on 24 December and I got my vin about a month later, then of course our cars were loaded on the 10th Feb.

From my understanding and reading on another forum, when it is sent to production means that it is released and ready to build. The actual build itself is only a 3-4 days with the last bit being the final checks such as wheel alignment,
Headlight adjustment and checking to see if there are any leaks with the car. I'll double check this today with my father in law who works on the assembly line at Toyota

                • hcvo1, even your earlier post indicates that it takes about a month from handover to production to exiting the production plant. I'm not sure how long it takes to actually build the car, but the whole production plant process takes a lot longer than a few days. It then has to be railed from Wolfsburg to Bremerhaven and wait to get loaded on the vessel.

what i mean here is that it does get handed over to production but does not get physically built until it starts the body shell shop. i.e does not get physically built till it enters the body shell shop.

Gotcha. Just didn't want to mislead anyone who gets excited about their car getting handed over to production thinking that it will only take a few days from that point to build. If you look at our cars, it will be about 3 months from the time it was handed over to production to the time that we will take delivery (from 24 December to late March/early April for me), and we were lucky to have one of the most direct shipping routes.

                        Exactly!

When it is handed over to production a build slot has to be allocated. I think VW do this a month in advance.

Wait. What? The ship docked on 18 Jan and you're expecting delivery on, let's say, Thu 2 Mar. That's 6 weeks!

I'm hoping you meant Sat 18 Feb.

So it didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped I'm down for a July delivery. Did have the clause in the contract and after much deliberations and this being my mid-life crisis car, I thought bugger it, will wait it out and not compromise what I wanted as had toyed with removing Rline from the order or looking for something else. Nothing else in this segment really interested me except for perhaps the new Audi Q2, but feel it'd be to small and not enough go compared to the 162TSI

                                So the big wait begins.

Keep the pics coming and descriptions of first drives etc, will help pass the time away
