  • One thing I've noticed on the new Tigs that I've seen on the road - there's a black foamy protection that is behind the number plate, but it's sized for euro plates as opposed to the standard NSW white plates. So the ones I've seen on the road have the black stuff visible either side of the number plate. Not a big deal, and a common theme for European cars, but it has made me decide to transfer the black euro plates from my current car to the Tiguan when it comes time for them to do the paperwork.

    • Anyone expecting their car to arrive in Aus early Jan - for delivery late Jan. I have a VIN but it's not showing up as shipped yet but see the Don Juan to Melb/Syd via Cape Town is loading in Bremerhaven now (due jan 8 in Melb) or Tamerlane is due to leave Germany on Dec 5 via some U.S. Ports Fiji, Auckland and then a run down the east coast then finally onto Fremantle.

Figuring from the info provided by the dealer our new Tig is likely to be on one of there two boats. (Hopefully)

Got me thinking now as I have ordered new standard size (372 x 134) Qld plates for mine. Car is white and I have ordered white plates with black lettering. thinking now that I may be better going for black plates with white lettering as I don't want the black sticking out either side too. Anyone know if the black plastic holder can be removed and the plate fixed direct? If I get chance this week I'll pop into the dealer to have a look.

I was actually talking about the rear. But yeah, there is also that plastic border at the front to think about too.

            • For those who've got their Tig with the sunroof, could you please test something out for me?

When you use the auto-open feature (2nd click position of the roof open switch) does your roof open absolutely all the way to the end? I just noticed lately that whilst I thought mine opened fully, if I then manually pulled the switch again and held it, the roof actually opened a bit further, maybe another inch or so.

              Hope this makes sense, thanks.

I don't have one but I remember seeing that in a video review.

See below at around the 15 minute mark, same behavior.

                • Wow, you have amazingly detailed memory to remember something as small as that!
But I'm grateful that you did, because I watched all of his videos and didn't pick it up

Looks like the rear spongy/foamy one can be removed - you can see the marks left on the rear panel (hopefully it wasn't done too well on this and can be made to leave no trace behind)

Oh and for the benefit of REXman the lettering isn't red it's maroon - you know the same colour of the invincible Qld State of Origin team

                    • Wipe over with eucalyptus oil and a quick polish any sign of the foam backing protector will be gone.
My last few cars all came with this but I have Euro plates so all the better.

Blue and white would be so much better.. all jokes aside the black surround makes the plate so much more.

This no review thing is killing me. Has anyone found a 162 'tis review yet?

You know considering tha VW isn't releasing the 177kw diesel, it's weird they are releasing the same motor in the Skoda..

                        • Has any one of the long waiting 162 TSI Rline orderes have had confirmation of cars been shipped yet? My last update was that my car has been built but that status hasn't changed in the last 3 weeks

What size plate for the front would we need to fully cover the black plastic? Alternatively, can it be removed and number plate be mounted without it?

                            • Until there's a 162TSI in the country, there won't be any reviews. I'd expect something in January.

For the 177kw diesel, I watched two separate video reviews a few months back and the presenters mentioned something along the lines of "if you're expecting that 'pushed back in the seat' acceleration feeling then you may be disappointed". Considering that both the 162TSI and 177kw bi-turbo diesel achieve the same 0-100 (6.5 seconds), I'm not sure why there is so much love for the diesel unless you do a lot of kms.

Mine is still only at the ordered stage (after 4 months)
I still remember waiting for my Tiguan 147 (new model in 2009) for over 7 months.
