Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Personally I like to design of the 17" rims on the comfortline (which is what I have ordered). If these can take snow chains then this is probably the main advantage of this model.

I have come from a vehicle with low profiles and I am actually looking forward to having a car with a bit more of a tyre profile for a change.

    • Comfortline can take 12mm snow chains. Highline not a hope in hell. That is the issue for me as I have an opening for a 162TSI highline with Jan delivery but I want a car I can take to the snow in Victoria which means snow chains are a must. Really peeved.

After comparing both tyre types last night the Highline has noticeably more sporty looking tread on its Continental tyres whereas the Comforline has more normal car like tread on its Michelin tyres.

If your issue is the ridiculous requirements for diamond pattern snow chains at one Victorian snowfield then do what I do. Take your business elsewhere.

There are a multitude of snow chains that will fit all sized wheels fitted to just about any vehicle. These snow chains are perfectly acceptable on any snowfield on the planet except one under the control of a small minded nanny state bureaucracy that is Victoria.

Drive North. Visit the NSW snowfields in the vehicle of you choice, with the snow chains that fit, and leave the Victorian snowfields for good. If more people left, they might just revisit their silly rules and change them to be in line with the rest of planet Earth.

        • I think Thule make snow chains that will fit the highline tyres.

          • Yeah there is the Thule K-Summit spider chains but I spoke to a retailer of them and he said they are not effective with summer tyres as they slip off the tread easily. Only diamond chains have any effectiveness, however limited, with summer tyres and the Highline can't take 12mm chains safely with only a couple of mm clearance.

I am fine with giving Hotham the flick as I am only interested in Buller and Falls anyway but I want to get there safely on bad days!

I took a quick photo (excuse the bad shot but I was supposed to be driving) and it wasn't until this evening when I was comparing photos that I saw the exhausts look almost identical:

Doing a bit of hunting I am pretty sure this is the body kit that it had which includes the exhaust tips which you can also buy on their own (all be it rather expensive). Interestingly they bolt onto the existing OEM muffler just replacing the standard tips.

Wonder if they or someone else will do something for the new Tiguan? Would have to find a way to remove the fake chrome outlets first though.
To me it looks as if the fake chrome outlets are not an integral part with the rear diffusor, meaning, I expect them to be relatively easy to remove. We'll have to see once they're here....

You might be right, just being comparing pictures of the Tiguan R spyshots with images of the BiTDI R Line with the fake outlets and the bumpers look identical except for the chrome outlets. Lets hope that this means they are easy to remove and then might be able to add something similar to the Touareg bolt on tail pipes.

                • Does anyone know if the keys to the new Tiguan are the same as the Golf Mk7? Was looking to buy a cover for the keys from ebay. Thanks!

                  • Hi All,

I'm in the market for a new Tiguan to replace our 2011 147TSI. Planning on the 162TSI fully loaded. It ticks all the boxes except for DAB+ radio! I have got in contact with a few dealers but none of them want to talk what might be upcoming in the mid year model as understandably they want to move cars now.

Has anyone heard any rumors if DAB+ is imminent, I'm thinking that as the new V6 Amarok has it, it is only a matter of time and I'd rather wait then have to retrofit it.

                    Cheers!

                    • I'd assume that it will come through in a model year update. I know the Golf is getting a major update for MY18 so if it turns up in this then likely you'll see it in the Tiguan not long after.

                      • For all of us gen 2 mk1 Tiguan buyers. Can the DAB+ be a simple retro fit or are we talking big $$$ to replace the whole head unit?

Can't believe all of the models don't have DAB radio let alone the high lines. Hope it's an easy fit.

Coming from Dynaudio in the Golf, pretty hopeful the highline stereo sounds *ok*.

                              • This is what happens when you buy an early production build of a new model. There's inevitably something that slips through that needs to be fixed/recalled.

Plusses and minuses of being an early adopter (beta tester).
