For the MK6 (EA888.2), a full metal waterpump is available (aftermarket only of course), for the EA888.3 and EA888.4, alas nobody has produced a full metal one.

Trust me, a lot of us here have been searching for them. I have a look every so often.

BTW, there is no such thing as an approved non-genuine part. Lots of non-genuine parts around (some of them better than OEM) but none are approved by VAG for fitment to 1 of their cars.

Thanks Sharkie. A bit of tongue in cheek from me concerning the approved non genuine parts. A contradiction of terms really. VW would have produced hundreds of thousands of plastic water pumps & thermostat housings as spare parts with the knowledge of the faults & need to ensure these are get used up. Real disappointing to see VW that had such a great reputation self-destroy its reputation. Its not that the faults exist, its the denial & roadblocks that VW put up that really irritates & makes me want to take it further. Then again, you see this with most car companies that release cars with known inherent faults , deny, deny, deny & use their customers & their money as a form of R&D. I've signed up to the class action b/c 'it's the vibe' & that it looks like the only way they get the hint is by some financial penalty.
