Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Question for the experts look up under roof edges when door opens

What are the two little holes above the front doors in the top of the door frame.
In rears there is also a grommet possibly for an electrical wire along with the two holes

They look like screw holes but......................................

First time Ive noticed them, now Im curious

I always thought it was something to do with aftermarket roof racks.

Normally a roof rack rests on the roof which takes the weight Wouldnt like to rely on 8 little screws for that

On my old Passat you took the plastic grommets out and used the hole to locate the roof rack mounts. So I presume they are there for any trim level that might not come with roof bars.

Maybe but there are only small grommets above the back doors and just two screwholes in the fronts

            Roof bars.
I have them on my Jetta, only in front doors. My racks have a pin that locates into them, on a Tiguan I suppose they are pointless as you would be using bars on the existing roof rails.
