  • Vibration sound at certain rpm.

Took the VW Tiguan on a dirt track, light off-roading.

Now I can rear a vibration noise in any gear, between 2000-2500 rpm (even in neutral). Above/below this rpm range it's fine. It started right after the car was bumped around. Not heavily, it's an SUV after all.

I can hear it in the cockpit with doors closed, but not outside or with the doors open.

There is no jolts or vibrating feeling, it's just a noise.

Sounds like a bee buzzing madly.

Any ideas what it could be or help me diagnosis?

      Thanks

It sounds similar to the (except I can't hear it unless I'm in the car with doors closed)

Interesting development. Noise is not there when the engine is cold. Develops when it gets warm/hot. No signs of overheating

Exhaust is likely touching a heat shield. Exhaust pipe expands slightly when hot so makes sense that it wont touch when cold. Pretty common on the Tigs to have rattling heat shields near the exhaust.

Have you gotten any closer to determining what it is?

Something similar developed in my 162 Highline during a long road trip, has remained in the car ever since.

No, only happened yesterday. Booked in Wednesday.

Why didn't they fix it under warranty?

I've got a service coming up, will raise it then. It hasn't annoyed me enough to get it sorted sooner

                  Vibration sound at certain rpm.

                  [*UPDATE*]

I canceled VW to look at it.

Drove the car home, noise was there at the rpm range described.

Got back to the city, had the car engine cleaned.

The I sprayed the undercarriage with my jet sprayer. Found an awful lot pebbles in the plastics under the car. Started smacking the plastics to loosen the stones. Jet sprayed what I could (I didn't have a ramp to crawl under the car).

Sprayed around the radiator to dislodge more leaves. Pushed the noise dampening foam back in. Gave parts of the engine another jet spray.

Result, no more noise during a 30 mins test drive, doing lots of 2000-2500 rpms.

If the noise returns, I'll have another look (also planning to get some ramps to lift the car).

I’ve heard about rocks in your head, but rocks in your plastic bits!!!
Ha ha, great to see you got to the bottom of it.
Nothing more annoying than noises in the car

I know that you've likely resolved this - but where was the sound coming from? if it sounded like a bee was stuck behind your dashboard then it's likely that it was the fuel line vibrating. I had the same issue and recorded it:

Mine comes and goes from time to time.

Does it sound like from the RH side of the dash ? If yes then its the same issue as mine.

Yep. I had it fixed by VW once and it was OK for a while but it comes back from time to time. Apparently you can wiggle the fuel line to stop it from happening - I haven't tried this yet.

The noise has made a comeback after a freeway trip. Now its back same as before.

sounds pretty much exactly like in this YouTube video you posted.

                            Much louder.

Can anyone send me a pic of where the fuel line is please?

I bet you have picked up stones on the under trays and they are vibrating as you drive along Tigs have got noise cancelling full length trays and could quite easily pick up small stones
