Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I tested my Tiguan as soon as I read about someone having locked their key inside their's on facebook. Fortunately mine recognises it is inside the car (left in centre console) and does not lock or detect from the outside.

Neither does mine but i outlined how it can be done with a second remote

I was a bit flabbergasted that it didn’t register the key inside the car...
Ok some clarification, after re-reading my post.
When the sales guy was showing me the features of the car on pick-up, he advised that it would register a key in the passenger compartment and not lock, but not if left in the boot, so one could possibly lock the keys in the car. His example was, if your wife locked the car, but then went to the boot to get something out, and accidentally left her handbag with the key in it when she closes the rear tailgate - the keys could be locked in the car.

To demonstrate, he proceeded to lock the car.
Then went around the back, and opened the tailgate (powered tailgate)
He then placed the key fob on the floor of the boot, and pressed the close button on the rear tailgate
The tailgate door closed and locked.
He then used the second key fob which we had placed about 20m away to unlock the car.
We had placed the 2nd fob this distance away to ensure the car did not sense that key was outside the car.

I just tried to replicate this and it no longer allows this scenario.
Instead, as others have mentioned, the tailgate closes about a foot and then stops and indicators flash.
Also, warning message "key in vehicle" is displayed on the AID

I tried having the car locked, opening the tailgate (passenger doors still locked) and then closing again and just before the tailgate closes, throwing the key fob into the boot. The tailgate closed, but did not lock. Instead the tail lights flashed and warning message appearing on AID.

Wonder if this was addressed through a firmware update when I got the car serviced???

Glad it's been fixed, as I thought it strange that the car did not sense a key in the boot and therefore could be locked with keys in the car.

That is strange. I wonder if it was a limitation with the related feature- key proximity, to enable kick to open?

Exactly what mine does as I said It would be different if you had the second remote in your pocket near the car maybe
