  • Water leak under car

I've noticed water spots under the car in the garage.

I'm thinking it's from the air con but checking if this is normal behaviour.

    It's a 3 week old tiguan highline.

It's clear. It's around the centre of car in line with the front wheels.

Looks to me to be air con. It's around 30 degrees in Sydney.

Yes, I've had cars with aircon but I don't get in the habit of taking a look under the car. My wife noticed it when I pulled out of the garage today.

It's more than likely just your air con. As long as it doesn't have any colour to it, don't worry.

Just a heads up, 1 day old high line my20, also found a puddle of water underneath this morning in the exact same spot as you described. Guessing it is aircon too, not too worried about it.

Valid query though because I had a q7 parked in the exact spot prior. Never experienced a puddle in my garage (strangely), maybe better behaved.. like a dog that holds its pee and sprays it somewhere other than home?

Some vehicles (typically larger ones like the Multivan) have a second compressor for the rear so will drop water from the AC in the rear too. This happens more in humid environments than drier ones.

I think older cars didn't seem to do this as much, partly because people tended to turn on the AC less, these days the "auto" function means the AC is pretty much always on.

I often wonder what makes different cars do this more/less than others, your old Q7 being a great example. Why didn't that one?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
