    I was very surprised that the new Tiguan would fail in this test.

    Fast forward 14 minutes if you don’t want to watch the lot.

    Is that the door opening resulting, while cross-axled? I’ve watched this(or another vid) that shows that and also a log test.

    Anecdotally, I can say the tig is better than it needs to be off-road. It’s really ground clearance and approach angle (especially on r-line) that let it down.

      What a terrible test system & the results were garbage.

      Some cars he drove with more momentum into the slope. Same with the mogul test.

      The summary at the end was woeful. Praise for the Forrie (warranted) but put the CRV which went the worst on the muddy slope up there as well. The Tig seemed to actually make it the furthest up the hill.

        Yes.
        I didn’t expect that. The rest of the test was kind of net very accurate, to say, since it was visible that he didn’t drive at the same pace and even the turning angles were different with every car.

          I agree the chassis rotational rigidity doesn’t seem great- based on that particular result. The car gets good marks in crash/moose tests though. So hopefully it’s a strange quirk of the platform and not a sign of poor performance.

          Again, from my own experience (even right now parked on my steep lawn) the car seems stiff. My sunroof never creaked(loss of rigidity having one) during lots of rutted sand driving during the summer and I can enter/exit the car, with the suspension more than fully articulated.

            The huge panoramic sunroof would have a significant effect on the body's rigidity in the Tiguan. Would be interesting to also test a Tig without the sunroof.

                I have Allspace with panoramic sunroof and agree that the car creaks a bit
                I notice this the most when driving up the driveway onto the nature strip out the front of my house
                There's always a slight creak that previous Klugers I had did not have when doing the same.

                  I can second this. My driveway has odd slopes on it and when reversing into my driveway I can hear it creak. No sunroof though.

                    According to Volkswagen, the Tiguan MK2 has a torsional rigidity of 28,000 Nm/degree (25,000 Nm/degree for models with the optional panoramic roof).

                    So it's certainly not sloppy.

                    The test old mate did is fairly flawed. Not overly repeatable or reliable as you can see. Pre loading the chassis and then opening the door is not a good indication. The vehicle is designed to have all doors closed whiles in motion. The doors become a stressed member of the chassis.

                    All he has really done is highlight that different manufacturers have implemented different designs to achieve torsional regidity.
