In all seriousness, I don't think it's as simply as the MAF that limits the performance. The Gen 3b has a higher compression as well as operating on the Budack/Miller cycle principle. The Gen3b is extremely fuel efficient for a petrol and is probably the main reason I bought one along with the fact it was cheaper than a top of the range R-Line. It's a good balance between fuel economy with a little bit of power on tap. I drove Tigs with all 3 engine options and settled for the middle of the road looking at factors like cost, fuel economy and power.

It still responds to the same mods but you can't push it's limits as far as the 162kw Gen 3. Can still buy and fit the same intake elbow, turbo muffler delete, down pipe and IS38 as you can to the 162kw motor, and with a bigger intercooler and a custom tune you can push 190kw at the wheels. The only thing that will cause an issue is the silicon hose you get between the intake elbow and the airbox for the 162 wont work, ECS sell a short one for the MAF and I think you can get full intakes that are MAF compatible too if that's your thing. The only other issue is fitting a Golf R rear muffler due to the cutout in the rear bumper being different, which may cause problems lining up the tips etc.

As mentioned, the gen3b is the only option in the US (albeit they get a slushbox and we get the DSG) so there is a market for tuning and we have options available to us from the US and EU. There is even a JB4 for this motor (option as it's shared with other cars like the Polo GTI.

Some tuners have options for the 147TDI, I think ExcelTune/Quantum Tuning is one which on paper takes it up to around 163kw.

I just had a look on the Quantum tuning website and I see they have Exceltune as one of their dealers in the Melbourne area. Now while im sure the Quantum remaps are fine, they fact that they tune absolutely every brand of car and model under the sun and dont seem to specialise on any specific brand or type would make me avoid them - especially when someone like UGP is in the same city and these guys specialise in VW/Audi/Skoda products heavily and have done so much work on the 2.0TSI engine tuning.

The other option is Tarmac Engineering (also known as SpecTune) who have just partnered with Vtune performance who are in Tullamarine VTune Facebook page . Tarmac/Spectune have also done a lot of development work on the 2.0TSI engine and would be another company I would recommend considering. Tarmac Engineering - Home

Actually I recall a member on here who had his Budac cycle 2.0TSI engine tuned by Underground not too long ago. He left the car with them for a few days so they could get it right as it was the 1st Budac engine they had tuned. Ive been trying to find the thread but no luck yet. Give them a buzz.

I can say from experience that the non-MAF version is AWESOME - 272kW / 471Nm... The Arteon is going in for stage 2 in the next week or so - 288kW / 533Nm. Can also vouch for Harding Performance, they do a lot of VWs.

There are a few options now. I'll be getting something done once my warranty expires.

Wanted to resurrect this thread to see if anyone has tuned a CZPA Tig yet?

Looks like there are options from JB4 and APR around. Has anyone tried any? Are they worth it if everything else is stock?
