  • I would be interested in the golf R caliper differences. Piston size, pad area etc are also important to compare. Not just diameter and thickness.

At most I'd be going a stage 1 setup with an R turbo transplant. Never going to track it. So something to prevent a little bit of fade at the bottom of a spirited hinterland cruise is all I would be after. The few K difference between a 4 pot and a 6 pot could be better spent on strippers and beer.

    • Ok that makes sense. Would of thought most would develop their own tunes then customize to each individual spec. I'm guessing nobody has done this MQB spec yet or not?

Wow thats a decent amount of boost! What sort of power are you expecting with new boost pressures? Stock is peaks around 15-16 psi then tapers off. I can't monitor mine (performance screen) as my Discovery Pro don't have it installed, only have offroad and a few others. Do you if there a app that I can use with the Obdeleven?

      • I'm going to confirm my order on the brakes tomorrow. Just waiting on one more quotation in the morning.
Will get the Alcon 6 pots with either the Forza 375x30mm or DBA 5000 378x32mm. The other supplier is working on a Wilwood or Brembo package to suit.
The rears will be Forza 350x22mm (or DBA) with existing caliper.

Yes there will be a base map that the tuner works from. They would also be working off the turbo specs but it will be a bit more work / fine tuning as they haven't tuned this set-up before.

I'm not sure the boost screen works when boost pressure is over stock levels. I've had a boost tap installed (but no boost gauge) and have had the boost logged on the dyno as well as with VCDS. I only have VCDS - no apps.

Ah ok so your mechanic would work of mine then fine tune your to suit your build. I'm surprised not many Tig's has had this done but I suppose they 'all waiting for the warranties to expire before tinkering.

I only have the off-road displays
the oil & water temp and a compass
and a few others pointless displays. Just thought it'll would be handy to have since it is integrated into the system somewhere, well not in mine anyway. Besides that I'll like to keep the interior as is rather then a race car.

            • Before I finalise my brakes order today (it wasn't mentioned to me) but I thought I will check if these pads have the sensors built in or do they do not? If not, how do I avoid the car detecting a problem with the wear sensors?

Stock brakes have sensors. If you get brakes without sensors you just need the either code it out or connect a short to the cable to stop the fault light coming up on the dash.

Thanks mate, I forgot to mention it's sorted. I was advised the rears don't have sensors and but the fronts on the other do. The front pads come with sensors so should be no issues.

My brakes are now ordered, now the painful wait for them to arrive. The rears on the other hand will come this week, so least I have half my birthday present to myself haha.

The guys at Brakes Direct are really great, can't recommend them enough.

Nice! What did you end up going with in the end? And yes Brakes Direct come with quite a few recommendations. That's where my kit originally came from also.

                      I purchased the following:
Alcon 6 piston Advantage Extreme with DBA 5000 series 378x32 T3 slotted rotors (this design to match the rears pattern)
Forza 2 piece brake kit 350x22mm - Using existing calliper
Pads all round - Forza FP3's - Still good for street/track

I will post a pic of the rears once received.

BTW - My rear calliper is getting repaired next week so will book in with Gordy soon. Get you maps soon after

Nice set-up. So how do you fit 350mm rotors on the rear using the existing caliper? Do you need a caliper relocation kit? Interested in this option as I have currently left the rears stock.

I'm patiently waiting for yours to get tuned as they'll update my file once they've sorted out some of the challenges with the ECU that they're experiencing. Easier to do it with the car on the dyno in Melbourne and means that my local guy doesn't have to get involved with loading a heap of revisions while they work their way around the engine protection limiting boost.

The rear Forza kit comes with a brackets for the adaption. This allows 350mm rotors to be used with OEM calliper.

What sort of issues are they experiencing with the ECU or limited boost? Are you now going to get your DSG tune once its remapped?

No problems but will get these fitted once I receive the fronts as I don't want to have to bleed the brakes 3 times and paying to get it done twice.

The brackets in the above kit comes in either black or red.

How are you finding your fronts now, should be bedded in properly by now?
