Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Wating on delivery of my Rline and have a few questions

1 Where is the fuse box to hardwire dashcams

2 I have 16L of 5w30 Enviro + 504/507 I presume its suitable for the Tig petrol motor (Has been Ok in the Polo for 7 years)

3 How hard is it to get wires through the roof at the rear and into the tailgate.

    Thanks

    Hi
very easy to fit cabels just need to dig bit and push inside all around till you reach end.
Regarding oil if is tsi 162kw than thag numbers is perfect, however if is 132tsi with budac cycle, this one is latest genration and require latest new standard vw 508, which reduce emission polution and has better fuel economy according to vw service manual. i think is also 5.7l by oil change capacity while 162tsi use 5l by oil change

Regarding fuse box, it is one the left side, behind glow box.
Just open it and pull 2x small plastic clip on top and pull all the way down and you will see fuse box. However accesing and puling out fuse box out to add wires is bit tricky ,as all cabels attached are bit shorth and not flexiable to move around and is very tide space.

Thak you but I dont quite understand some of your words as some dont sort of make sense .

I wont be removing fuse box will be using special fuses or addafuses.

As the roof lining goes right to the rear edge of roof I am wondering how far you can pull it down to get cables in to flexi pipes to taildoor and not damage it

          1.
Open your glove box and push the 2 top tabs down, then gentle move it forward till it stops. On the LHS, unclip the glove box damper/geared opener (lever?). The whole glove box can now be swung completely wide open revealing the fuse box.

I assume this is common on the Golf, Passat, and maybe Jetta?

          2.
I bought the same, I'm going to give it to the dealer for my next service, if they say no I'm walking out and taking it elsewhere.

          3.
Wire into the tailgate is a piece of piss, the conduit/sleeve has plenty of room/space. I used whipper snipper line as a "snake" to pull up the wires. Followed the route I found on the net, but if I had to do it again to a future VW I would route it low down along the door sills.

Thanks for that I have supplied my own oil at the dealers for ever

The Passat has its fuse box in drivers end of the dash

Did u poke it in from the roof end or from the door end and how hard is it to get the ends of the covers on the ends of the flexi bit out at each end. I did the Passat along the floor and up the rear quarter Was easier than along the roofline. Do u have the link you followed.
            Cheers

The way I am doing when adding new fuses by doing factory retrofits or adding extra option non standard accessories .
I follow elsa factory diagram , than pull out complete fuse box to access rear all wires from behind, than I add extra fuse pins to empty fuse space in fuse plastic space, than connect wire .
Is bit hassle but that's how I like to do factory way nice and tidy .
Offcourse most people do easy way just pull one existing fuse from front , than replace with fuse splitter wire adapter or addfuse or whatever fuse splitter brand you use In this case you don't need to follow my part which include pulling and accessing rear fuse box.

You are free to do it your way Perhaps if you had looked closer you may have found as I did that VW often have extra fuse slots with power on one end already. The Passat had several both perm on and acc on I just used two of them.
I have done it in 6 different cars my way with no problems when I installed the cameras in them. Also if done this way is easier to remove the stuff
I removed the cameras from my Passat yesterday Took 20 mins and you will never know anything was touched as I used spare fuse slots and just had to pull them out and undo one screw to release the earths.
I am hesitant to pull a $60k car apart for the reasons you state when there is an easier just as tidy way of doing it.
No sense in making in making a mountain out of a molehil.

Also as I prefer to use existing ciggy connectors you need a pair of wires to go to another ciggy socket. Why you ask, because some cameras run on 5 volt and the stepdown is in the ciggy plug.

I have fuses with wires already soldered onto them which plug straight in.

Dash Cam Install Tutorial – Volkswagen MK7 Golf – AutoInstruct

Our Tiguan are pretty "similar" to a Golf, the rear roof lining has 2x metal clips which can be popped off quite easily. I used a screw driver covered in a thick soft rag.

Silicone spray goes a long way when trying to pop it all back together.
