  • Wolfsburg first service interval and run in procedure

Hi all, just picked up my wolfie on monday and was told the first service is not due until 15,000ks.

Seems quite high with no check at say 1500 to 3000kms per other cars I have had, new to VW

    Is this right?

Also what methods if any is everyone using for running the car in, have read up on various methods from flogging it to a proper run in procedure of taking it easy and alternating revs etc... thoughts ??

    Cheers

Its in the manual. First 1500km dont go over 3500rpm, no full throttle, no lugging engine from memory

Pretty much drive it normally until warm and then give it some beans (but not to redline) - like hitting the on ramp to the freeway and getting up to speed.

Try not to use cruise control and vary the engine rpm for the first 1,000-1,500km.

Best off bedding everything in well and you'll get good life out of it.

But yes there's a bunch of different opinions/theories. Not sure it really makes a heap of difference if you're not keeping the car until "end of useful life".

Manual says no full throttle or heavy loads e.g towing straight away etc or foot to the floor for first 1000kms.

Then from 1000 to 1500 increase rev range.

In saying that, drive it like you normally would but just don't try to race everything until after 1500km.. and then to celebrate 1500km, find yourself a quiete road and launch control that mofo to celebrate the run in

Just don't do launch control out of the dealer driveway on a cold engine and you should be fine

Peoples thoughts on doing an oil change after the first 1000-2000kms? Do engines still shed swarf and castings these days?

I did an oil change at 5k. Probably not a bad idea on a new engine.

I certainly wouldn’t be waiting until 15,000km to drop the oil.

Did you change the oil yourself or at the dealership ?

VW independent. I got this done at the same time as having the Eibach lowering springs fitted.

I think I might give mine an oil change, as it’s near 5000 already and doing a 2000km trip aus day weekend.

Holy crap oil is dear for this car(diesel) I just bought a bottle.

                        84-96 was the price range for a 5l bottle(penrite enviro+ 5/30)

Will be a job for Saturday.

You can sometimes pick it up for around $60-65 on sale. But yes long gone the days of a $20 oil change.

Does doing an oil change require a re-code? I know on my BMW I can’t even change brake pads without a recode.

Once you've done your 1st fuel tank, fill up then launch control it.

Thrash it's mum, get those rings nicely bedded in (although I assume there's already some form of bedding in process at the VW plant involving monkeys in a chamber).

By the time I reach 3000km the car probably saw more than 20 hard launches.
