Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tiguan Allspace auto door lock

When I open the car up using the handle, keys in my pocket, the car unlocks lights flash as expected. It behaves just like I pressed the unlock button on the keyfob.

When I close the car, I press the engine-off button. Keys are still in my pocket. Touching the handle doesnt seem to consistently lock the door in fact I've been able to it to do that once. Reading the manual suggests that touching the handle or the spot where your thumb touches the handle should lock the whole thing.

Theres not really much in the way of setting to control it in the infotainment, autolock or whatever it's called is enabled.

Anyone have much luck with the auto lock/unlock feature?

Are you touching this part of the handle to lock the car?

And NOT touching the inside of the handle at the same time. That’ll confuse it.

I had a exactly same experience but the trick here is you have to completely switch off the car before trying locking the car.

And make sure you put it in park. Got me once. Doors won’t lock in gear or neutral even if the park brake is on.

I managed to get it to work a few times this morning. Just thumb on the little dimple in the handle was the trick to it.

So much fun to start getting use to all these features in the car. It is really a very enjoyable vehicle to own, I can't stop gushing over it.

You have to make sure none of your hand is near the inner part of the handle where the unlocking sensor is located.

Lots of fun while you’re drying off the car.... unlock, lock, auto lock after timing out... and then you get belted in the side of the head by the tailgate opening while you bend over to shine the chrome ‘tailpipes’. All rookie mistakes that still get me a year into ownership

When I wash the car I leave the key in the armrest. The car won’t lock with the key inside so it avoids all those lock/unlock moments. It can be good for the solenoids either. I’d imagine they wouldn’t be cheap to replace, at a stealership anyway.

Lol, thanks! I didn’t really think about it much. Old school habit of not leaving a key in the car to be accidentally locked out. Irrational now I suppose
