    Thanks Tigger!

I think I’m gonna let the idea of changing the wheels go and keep the stock wheels for now.

Rosso red was all they had available. I maybe would have liked to try something a little different as this is what I used on my Scirocco and 155 Tig but it’s a nice colour and red brakes look good and could pass for a factory finish (GTI comes in this colour).

And yes I’ll DIY. Probably over Christmas as I’ll have some time then.

These were a couple of Big Brake Kits. Budget for similar $ to a decent set of wheels...

Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra on my Wolfsburg (courtesy of Dan from The Ultimate Detailer). So far I’m loving the shine! I’ll give it a few more days and see if it holds up.

Wowsers that looks gorgeous! I didn’t know for GTech you needed the infrared heat lamps to bake it in (this is mandatory for Pomponazzi Glass coating)? Did you get the EXO coating too?

Can I ask if you considered Pomponazzi and how much did your GTech coating cost?
                    Thanks!

Don’t know about the exo coating but this I believe is already the top of the line for Gtechniq with 9 year warranty. Yeah I considered Pomp but advised that Gtech is better Payed $1,580 for exterior, interior, glass, and wheels.

Pretty much every coating would benefit from sitting under heat lamps for 24 hours to cure it. Many places don’t and the life of the coating suffers as a result.

Most coatings will say not to get it wet for 48 hours. But if it’s properly cured before it leaves the shop it’s even better.

I love how glossy these cars look. What I’m really interested in is how good they look in 3 years and after 100,000km with weekly hand washes.

I believe in putting a ceramic coating on the car to protect the clear coat from bird droppings etc. But for a daily driver that’s going to get a fair amount of wear and tear I’m still to be convinced it’s worth the ~$2k investment to get one of these top coatings professionally applied.

I think you are right. I had a quote from an authorised detailer for GTech and they don’t do the heat lamps (so I’m questioning their process). Another detailer for GTech indeed use the heat lamps so I know who I will be using.

I know some of the local detailers will push cars in/out in a day and you’re lucky if it’s under lamps for 20 minutes.

I guess it’s better than nothing but you generally get what you pay for.

A lot of the time required to do these coatings properly is in the preparation and curing (12-24 hours each). There’s no point putting on a coating over blemishes as they’ll stay in the paint forever. Then if you are going to spend $ and hours in paint prep you need to spend the time curing the product after it’s been applied. Otherwise you may as well not bothered.

It ends up being a very labour intensive process and taking 2-3 days to do “properly”. If they take short cuts it’s going to be cheaper but then you end up with a so-so job.
