VW - 5 Year Warranty

What does this mean for vehicles purchased under their 5 year warranty deal up until the end of last year? I just recall that came with roadside assistance for each of the 5 years?

It seems VW may start charging for Roadside Assist

Following the service schedule ensures your vehicle receives the love and care it deserves. As such, vehicles presented to an authorised Volkswagen Dealer will be eligible for a SIRA Policy up to 42 days after, or 2,500 kilometres above the service schedule milestone. If previous services were missed or completed outside our network, you will also be eligible when you return to an authorised Volkswagen Dealer for a standard scheduled service.

** Authorised Volkswagen Dealers may charge a service fee to activate your SIRA Membership.

Is roadside just racv/raa/nrma equivalencies?

Yes I'm pretty sure most of the vehicle manufacturers that offer roadside assistance just have a deal with the state motoring association to provide the service.

I haven't looked into the details (probably should) but I know RAA has a number of levels of roadside assistance with the top level including accommodation and greater towing distances inclusive.

I imagine roadside assistance for new vehicles is probably down to flat tyres, flat batteries and flatbed trucks (as well as the odd splash of fuel).

Toyota just went five years with a twist, money back if the vehicle has major issues within sixty days of purchase and repairs have not been done. I am sure there is more in the fine print, that is only a rough summation.

With VW and Toyota both moving to 5 Years as of 1 Jan 2019, the remaining car brands are looking sheepish stuck on 3 Years.

Hyundai no longer has any marketing advantage advertising 5 years warranty.

My bet is Hyundai will shortly move to 7 Years now that Toyota has moved to 5 Years least they start losing market share.

Looking to buy a second hand tig which is a late 2018 model. The seller is saying the car has an extended warranty which covers it till 2023 but has no paperwork to prove it. He said the will look for papers, but is there a way I can check with Volkswagen directly if I have the VIN?

Yes VW can confirm a vehicle has 5 year warranty. When I bought my 2018 Allspace I called VW and they confirmed it and were happy to email me so that I could have something in writing.

Did this happen before or after the sale? I called yesterday and they said they can only give the info to the current owner. Also the owner I think has only done the services with an invoice trail (not in the VW electronic system)... hopefully that doesnt void the warranties?

Sorry, I didn’t explain very well. I bought it new so was just checking what the dealer told me was correct so I am the owner. Get the seller to call up VW and get it in writing.

Even that isn’t accurate for the vintage car being discussed.
My late 2018 allspace has 5 yr warranty, but the window says 3.
There was a time where the 5yr was a promo and then it got announced as extended (all in 201, then permanent (1/1/2019)
In that span of time the cars had already been manufactured with the window stickers saying 3yrs.

I wrote to VW but they wouldn’t offer me the 5 yrs
I thought the dealer would affix the warranty sticker
