After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cracked Windscreen Repair

Found a crack at the base of my windscreen near the drivers side windscreen wiper around 1-2 inches long.

Any recommendation for places that can fix it?

Otherwise will look at a replacement.

O'Briens windscreens depending on how long the crack is ,they can drill and resin repair , if not your up for a new screen , It will grow if not repaired

I had the windscreen replaced at VW due to a defect when it was new.
Just be aware that the camera and sensors need to be recalibrated after the windscreen is replaced (this is mentioned in the owner manual).
Whoever is replacing the screen needs to know how to do this procedure.

Got 1 free windscreen a year with Shannons.

Obrien said they only do aftermarket not OEM. After explaining to them I will not accept an aftermarket screen because of the lane guidance, rain sensors and needing recalibration etc. and talking to 2 different people they are putting in OEM.

Dropping car at local VW dealer for Obrien to do the install there and VW to recalibrate.

Do not accept aftermarket windscreen as the recalibration will NOT WORK.

Would be interested in the full cost for new screen and recalibration if you find out. Must be bloody expensive compared to the cost of windscreen cover option with insurance.

Dunno about a Tig screen but my Passat one was about $1400 all up after camera calibration etc Screen was $660 according to VW parts guy

Anyone but Obriens would be cheaper

I got my windscreen replaced mid this year, was told by friend at O'Briens that the glass was nearly 2k fitted plus the cost of VW to re calibrate all the sensors. VW didn't give me a final price as it was through my insurance. I had to ask for a genuine windscreen as well. It has been 3 months and nothing has gone wrong.

Thanks. $1,500 to $2,500, wow. Will be definitely taking the free windscreen replacement option on my insurance before picking up my allspace.
