Just my 2 cents worth.
Have been driving my 110TSI Tiguan Comfortline with DAP for 7 month now.
1 long trip from Adelaide to Melbourne and back recently but apart from that I drive 80% locally at 60 km/h and the occasional 90km/h.
I have found 60-70km/h to be the best however 90 and under still shows extremely good economy.
I reset my counters at EVERY FUEL FILL and I always try to fill the tank near empty, that is I usually put in atleast 50-55 litres and have also put in 60 litres on one occasion.
The worst mileage I got per tank was 740km, the best I achieved was around 870km.
From previous experience I found shell to be equal best with Caltex, However since new I have always used Caltex vortex95 in the Tiguan, until recently where I have tried 1 tank mobil 98 and 1 tank BP 98. Did NOT noticed anything special with these. Finally I decided to try Caltex 98 and I am still driving with half a tank on this. Most likely will see close to 900km I think. In any case I think I will stick to Caltex95 unless this Caltex 98 can justify itself.
Long trip to VIC and back at 110km/h and the occasional instant short bursts revealed that this engine is not designed for speed, it isnt economical (above 110km/h) and doesn't have any power if your looking for it. However in normal city traffic it does the job well. If your priority is economy and not so much power then its for you, otherwise it will disappoint. (However 2nd gear really impresses me).
Locally 7.1 is normal driving, and anything under that (6.1 onward) is mixed driving, I try to drive economically most of the time. (let the car roll to a stop when approaching lights etc.).

I am almost sure it is to do with the issues they are having at the factory with complying with the new WLTP testing regulations.
This is causing major headaches for a number of European manufacturers. It is possible that the 110TSI will come back, however from around September you'll only be able to purchase a 132TSI or 162TSI Tiguan (or whatever old stock of 110TSI/110TDI/140TDI is still available).
It's a bit odd what you are saying, because for example in Malaysia, the Tiguan is only available with the 1.4 110TSI engine. Also I am being a European can tell, that most of the people there either drive a max 1.4 car or a TDI, due to the high petrol prices, but people are slowly turning away from the diesels.
So if it's true VW has to come up with something quick. What they will sell in Malaysia for example?

I can't say what is happening in other markets. I can only comment on what I know is happening here and what is being reported from the factory. VW has already admitted that it is not ready for WLTP certification and that it doesn't have enough testing cells to test all variants and options. They are going to be shutting down production and stockpiling cars.
A lot of Australian spec cars/engines are a different to those in other markets as they are detuned for "hot climate" conditions. I am sure there's been negotiations with each market to determine the priority in getting vehicles certified.

Then I will add one last negative comment, I had a 1.6TDI diesel Passat previously while in EU, the only similarity was the Turbo, You really have to get used to it. If you accelerate slowly (gradually) it is (nice and smooth) not an issue however if you press down less than half way and expect to accelerate somewhat then you wont get it as it may not be enough to trigger the kick down. You need to give it a good press down for kick down into lower gear. Its just a matter of adjusting your driving. I hate coming out of a corner and NOT pressing the accelerator down enough for it to kick down a gear and GO GO GO. You know the feeling you get when your expecting a take off and it doesn't happen. Your left with that forward crouch waiting for the pull.
As I said you get used to it, its a more economical way of driving I guess.
On the brighter side, Take off from the lights with a little pedal and when you hit 2nd gear you really feel the pull.
Comparing other features such as Lane assist and ACC with the Mazda a family member has, the VW does everything, But Better. VW just have too many advantages to even mention.
TEST DRIVE it before making a final decision. Too many people I know just sit in the car and look out the front window when evaluating a car. You need to be comfortable when driving the car. A mistake I ALMOST made.
If your budget is around 40K then 1.4TSI WITH DAP wont disappoint. (DAP is a must).

Thanks for reply again. My daily drive is a 2016 c-class wagon with amg suspensions which makes the car very bumpy going over speed humps , when I compared the drive quality , the 110tsi is actually better for the needs of my wife ( carrying baby , shops, appointments etc..) and the interior is 10 times better than her previous 2016 discovery sport ( it was a base model.so the interior was very plain)

And the AEB function on this Tiguan was tested by NCAP to be very good ( just sitting under the new XC60)
This is the fuel economy for the first tank of fuel from 0km for my 110 TSI. I am not sure what fuel the dealer put in but I have now put in 7-11 98 and will be interesting to see the figure again at the next refuel
