Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Suitable phone mounts for Tiguan

I have been investigating phone mounts for my new Tiggy but thought I would crowd source ideas from you guys!

Basically, got an iPhone 8+ and don't use CarPlay (as am happy with the native VW stuff so far) therefore mount doesn't require phone to be plugged into USB.

Can you guys suggest suitable mounts for this situation please. Photos and brand names would be most welcome! Cheers!

I don’t have my Tiguan just yet but use this type of vent mount for my iPhone 7+ very happily. So much so that I’ve actually bought several of these and given them to family members

I have always used Mobile Phone & GPS Car Holder | HoldMyPhone they have holders designed for the car and phone specifically. They are not cheap but have not had a problem with them in my last 4 cars.

I second the ClickOn ones from HoldMyPhone, they are a bit pricey but I think they are worth it. I had one for my Mk6 Golf and finally got around to getting one for the Tiguan. I am not a fan of vent mounts and I love hold these don't damage the dash at all. Plus I always have mine plugged in for CarPlay so I like how they have the holders with the iPhone cable connector.

Here are some photos of mine installed:

Of course they also do the holders without the USB cable connector as well which are a bit cheaper.

Have used these in my other cars and are really good, but pricey..

I tried an ebay vent holder, but it rattles the phone all the time..

Hey portas. How have you found the click on holder? Couldn’t find a spot/hole for the cable to go through to nearly run the cable from the USB port to the passenger side of the console the way it appears in the photo above.

Are you or NZ_GolfR able to explain/show me a photo showing that?

I tried calling hold my phone and emailing both them and the manufacturer and neither of them even bothered to contact me. So I use a magnetic clip on vent now. [emoji20]

Fair enough Portas. Yep I’ve been using a vent mount as well- like the Belkin that I posted further above.

NZ_GolfR, are you able to explain? Did you create a hole for the wiring to use the ClickOn mount?

No, I haven’t managed to router the cable through yet, was going to try pulling bits apart to see if I could get it through but just haven’t got around to it. I have just stuck the cable down around the edge, hopefully this photos shows it better:
