Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

With the new MY18.5 have they removed the ESC/traction control button? Do you need to go into the menu to turn it to ESC SPORT? That would be a tad annoying for engaging LC...
G’day, did you end up working this out?

I didn’t manage to get a reply from Osako. Any MY18.5 162 TSI owners want to chime in?

Sorry I missed this, my car is an early one so it has the button and yes on the later cars it is a menu item only.

Gen 2 Tiguan 162TSI launch control

I haven't launched mine yet but the stability control options are under the settings menu:

Just select ESC Sport when in "S" mode, foot hard on brake, 100% accelerator, lift foot off brake, go.

Great, thanks tigger. Are you waiting for a certain number of k’s before trying it out?

No just had no real reason to launch it to be honest. And wasn’t really my plan to drive that hard while running the car in

I can't see the point, used it once for the experience and promptly forgot about it until I saw the question raised here.

I’ll use it when I run some performance testing but that’s about it.

Car clicked over the 100km mark, so I celebrated with launch control lol.

Seems launch RPM is about 3600rpm where the RPM stabilises. Once brakes were released you can feel a sense of urgency from the front wheels with ever so slight slip followed by the rears kicking in once the haldex kicks in.

I thought the launch would have been violent like an Evo X however it is quite graceful. You do feel pinned to the seat but it's nothing like my R33 accelerating.

Will get some videos from inside and outside during the day time this weekend.

                      Wife didn't like it lol.

I can confirm that in tuned form (stage 1, 2 and 2+) launches get increasingly more aggressive with the power increase. When I did LC with the IS38, I got a little startled in the second to third gear change, it threw me hard back into the seat. Very unassuming and sleeper like now with the Tig....

Very true, big difference in stock vs stage 1,2 other launch. My launch is set to 4000rpm.

Don't tempt me with mods LOL

Anyone is Sydney want to sell me their stock DP? Probably just get the stock one modified with a 100 cell cat and add a small mesh in the factory O2 bung to "simulate" a restrictive cat.

Probably the only modification I would do.

Once a modder, always a modder. As you read and re-read these posts you will no doubt be influenced to make some decisions that will ultimately satisfy the modding bug.

With the downpipe if you hollow out the standard cat, that might give you some decent flow. Chuck in a panel filter, remove snow grate, stage 2 tune and you can have quite an unassuming sleeper!

hahaha I'm at an age now no more hollowed cats, unless the car is on straight E85 (due to the smell when the car is stationary) - even my R33 has a 100cell cat however the external gate is plumbed back after the cat, so when it's on noise it bypasses the emissions system completely
