Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
My 162 Tiguan is almost one year old and needs it's first service.
Is there any advice you guys have?
Will they update the software and maps?
They will not upgrade the maps and they want to charge you $476 dollars to do so. My suggestion is to check one of the other threads on this forum and there is a link to the VW website where you can download and install the updates for free.
In terms of servicing, it should be capped and be around the $426 mark. If you have any concerns or questions raise it either on the phone when you book the car in, or tell them to write it down as you hand over the keys on the day of your service.
I am not sure if all dealerships do it but normally they give you a free wash and vac, and any washer fluid left over they should give you the rest of the bottle in order for you to top up if needed.

Yes that is the one. More than likely as you gave the 162, it should be the discovery pro. From memory the file is 24GB, and has a 68 in the file name. Scroll down and select the map only as the application is crap.
You will need a 32GB USB or SD to unzip the file to using 7zip on windows.

I am in the process of updating my maps. I downloaded the update from Volkswagen Maps & Software Updates.
Tried unzipping and loading software using my MAC Pro but Tiguan wouldn't recognise. Once initialising SD card with Windows and copying files across Tiguan now recognises the map updates.
Needs about 4 hours I'm informed so I am off to Port Campbell tomorrow which is a 7 hour trip so I'll start the update then.

$426 bucks for a first service which is a oil and filter change and a safety check OMFG!!
I used for my diesel(expensive oil 507 vw rated) a euro specialist for my 1st 15k service
Just went and looked up invoice $256 for it total oil/filter and safety check of all relevant components with stamp in service book warranty retained
That my friends is why i will not go to the stealership for servicing they make well over 60% of the profit for the dealership in the servicing department
I was given the hard sell about servicing my car at the dealer warranty void ect ect
which i knew from researching was total b/s so i just smiled and nodded with my fingers crossed behind my back and saved money
Also i had a good chat with the mechanic that worked on my car (he really liked the obd11 mods that were done to my dash and other items) so now if i have a issue i ring up and ask for my mechanic by name and he knows my car can you do that with a dealership i think not!

That is true Umai i have the 5 year warranty so if anything goes wrong in that time frame i am covered and to be fair after 5 years i would not be put out to fix the car myself as a 5 year time frame is about 130-150k for my car usage
Tho if it were a known fault say the timing chain issue on i think on the 2010 to 2012 petrol engines i would go all out to get it at least partly covered by goodwill i keep all paperwork and can be a extremely stubborn and persistent pain in arse

The number of mistakes by dealers is enough to put me off using them forever. They use apprentices, and the foreman does not check their work. If you don’t want your car maintained properly, use a dealer.

might be the case with your vw dealer, but not mine. You’re using generalisations to talk about specifics.
Most workshops have apprentices on the tools. That's how they learn.
I'd say with the processes in place in VW dealers theses days, which are also heavily audited, the quality control is pretty good. Most require every job to be double-checked, regardless of the technician's experience.
The software I downloaded from Volkswagen Maps & Software Updates was installed on my PC and downloaded the 24.7GB file (took 3+ hours on 50mbit and then another 30 min atleast to install onto the SD card).
