While I agree that the camera is not exactly in the middle, it is now not in the way of the driver or the passenger and you can easily slide out the unit by pressing the button on the bracket and remove the power cable then remove the card if needed.
The cable gets closer to the headliner to hide and the fixing point of the bracket is behind the darkened windscreen, which makes it less prone to loosen in direct sunlight if it gets too hot.

Never had one fall off in 6 years in temps from -5 to over 40C One thing I was careful not to do was run cables that would be in front of airbags and i question running along near roof when vehicle has curtain airbags. I ran mine along under trims above carpet so no danger.
For front camera along edge of dash and up the A pillar between screen and trim so airbag cant snag it and rip the camera into your face

View of camera from drivers seat 100mm of cable exposed only

Check this video below to see if the cabling in the headliner would interfere with the airbags. Forward to 0:46 seconds. I'd say not. It is also specifically mentioned in the Autoinstruct guide when running cables in the A pillar, i.e. where to run it exactly.

Can you post a picture from the passenger seat?

I would disagree It blows the headlining out and down and if a cable was along there it could possibly snag it Along the floor removes any doubt. However I have two seperate camera so only have to run a power wire from front to back

Photos as requested I had to move my head left quite a bit to see the end of the camera and wifey says she never notices it.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other. How do you run the cable from the camera to the A pillar on the left or right side of the windshield? On the top of the windscreen right? That's what I call the headliner, where the ceiling meets the top of the windshield. There is nothing to blow out on the top of the windscreen, that is clearly visible in the video.

You have a Passat right? In a Tiguan, the camera sits in a lower position and you sit higher, if you install it under the mirror it is clearly visible from the passenger seat. It is not comparable. I will stop now, no point to discuss this when we are not talking about the same car in the Tiguan forum. Come back when you have a Tiguan

Maybe we are I was referring to the pics in Brissypoms installation of the rear camera cabling. I am 6ft 2 so sit fairly high as well.

I see. For the rear camera, I agree with you with regards to the cabling. I don't have that issue though as I only have a front camera.

WTF? Why on earth would you NOT mount a dashcam so the lens is centred?

I have the Blackvue DR750S and both my front and rear cameras are positioned so the lens is centred. It doesn't obstruct any visibility whatsoever. If you're mounting it BELOW your rear view mirror, you're doing something wrong.

All my cabling is run through the vehicle trim. The front two cables go up to the roof lining and then across and down the A-pillar.

I put mine on the left.

The camera viewing angle being slightly off center is in my opinion a lot less important than it being neat and completely out of my driving view.

I know, right? It is amazing how many people with or without OCD don't care if the lens is exactly in the middle or not.

But if we are talking about personal preferences, I don't like your wiring. That would disturb my OCD, seeing those two wires hanging in my view every day. Horses for courses.

Can be hidden right down to the front of the unit on the screen. Cant see more than 50mm of wiring on mine and cant see it from drivers seat as I showed earlier. I have altered it since reply 32 as have had a new screen in

I mounted mine high up on the passenger side just to the left of the sensor box thingo. Yes it's not perfectly centre but it gets everything in view that matters.

Wiring is not in my view every day. And there's no way I was messing with the sensor box just to hide cables that are already of no concern. I'm as OCD as the next OCD person and my install is perfectly fine.

Whatever you guys do, just remember to run the power cabling under the curtain airbag not on top.

I am sure in the event of a deployment, the cable will snap like a toothpick, but I can imagine in the odd even the cable will turn into a great whip lol.
