Several of the top reviews of the BlackVue cameras on Amazon complain about the inability to read number plate details. They claim that other (cheaper) cameras are better at number plate visibility. Is this a real issue or more a case of customer expectation exceeding reality?

Yep, I know. My searches showed that many have used non-BV cards with/without problems. I was skeptical about their recommendations which backed me off, not to mention their hefty prices. Altogether my investment for cam+card is still much less than a similar BV alone while the outcome has been not so bad, if not better per some reviews in dashcamtalk.com (disclaimer: I do not own any BV to compare, so this is only hearsay then . I am truly happy with the 2K quality when reviewing the video clips in my computer.

I have no idea if this is new or not (i assume just arrived in Aus) but Audi has official Dash Cam.

              Now....why doesn't VW have it

I guess, the cost might have something to do with it.

Since there are so many cameras around the car, wondering if there is a way to record the video from all these cameras while the car is driving normally, then can get video from all angles around the car.. Then a dash cam is not required.

                    Hi there!

If you have a Tiguan MK2 and if you have a Blackvue front dash cam, may I ask where did you mount it?
In front of the mirror console, or right side, or left side?

I am planning to mount it in front/bottom of the mirror console but there is an opening on the console and I am afraid that I am going to block something. ??

Dash Cam Install Tutorial – Volkswagen MK2 Tiguan – AutoInstruct

I don't own a Tig but the Art it's similar and I put it in the same spot as the link above.

                      This position:

Allows the cables to tuck in nice
Ensures easy ability to remove from mount
                      Doesn't affect your driving visibility
Doesn't get in the way of any instruments

My recommendation is not to install it under the mirror/instruments purely from a drivers visibility standpoint.

Just make sure you can easily get to the SD card if you want to remove it to copy all the content onto a computer, or swap it over for a long trip if you want to keep the content.

                              Hi PeteC,
Although the AutoInstruct write-up is very good a) it's only for the front camera and b) I wasn't happy with the camera position for two reasons; one being it's too far off centre for my liking and secondly accessing the cables and SD card are a PITA - you need to move it even more to the left to get to them properly. Because of this I decided to mount mine under (behind) the mirror. Below is a very quick write up

From the driver's seat the camera is hidden and the lens is central to the car. As I don't like to see any exposed cables I ran them in the headlining and then hid them in the mirror housing trim so only the minimum is exposed. Had to put a small notch in the cover for the cables though.

For the rear camera I removed the plastic cover trim on the hatch (held on with 5 clips – 3 along the middle and one at each end) and fed the camera cable through with the existing cables. The two ends of the corrugated cable cover simply clip off allowing the cable to be inserted (use solid wire or similar with a draw wire then securely tape on the camera cable and pull through). Feed through the body work and secure along with the existing cables.

To run to the front I inserted the cable between the plastic trim(s) / door rubbers and the headliner until the A-pillar.

Brizzypoms method is by far the best as in the linked one you cant get the power plug out or the card. I'll bang on about my Passat but it will be less obvious in a Tig as you sit higher
Rear camera is attached to a piece of Colourbond flashing material bent to slide in the rear door roof trim and looks like this Saves having to run the cable into the taildoor and is easily adjusted if you bump it
