Thanks Hillbilly. I have the late '19 Tiguan but with the standard dash/media. Not the end of the world not having updates as Carplay is there.
Use the page and pick which photo is yours Or post a pic of your unit Its not hard. IVe been swapping between VW and Skoda maps for years depending on which one comes out first

hehe - "clickety clack"! (also interesting to see that it's written in React.js)
I doubt the too many redirects error is causing any issues (seems to be image-related). I think it's more likely the (.*?) (regex capturing group) in the URL that probably should've been substituted for something (like a model name/number)... https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/AUS_11PR107_(.*?)-231E0_Offline_Update.tar
I'll wait to see if they fix the VW link sometime soon, but will otherwise try the Skoda maps - thanks!
Update: started debugging it, but ran out of time. I might take another look tomorrow
Update 2: looks like that (.*?) is a standard error/feature for all the mib3 map urls, which also seem to be broken... Either way, the ? in the middle of a URL is invalid and should probably be encoded
Updated my Amunsden MIB3 in our Kamiq today using the maps from the VW site
Took 20mins no probs Just stuck the unzipped files on a microusb in a USB C adapter , stuck it in the second slot in the console and while the music played from the Stick in the other slot the map updated from22.12 to 23.6 SIMPLES
As posted unless Stick has an LED you wont know anything is happening but it does update in about 20mins.
Had to idle car on drive as a snake had crawled up into rear wheel well or somewhere. After about 20 mins it must have not liked the hot exhaust and crawled out again. Put car back in garage and checked the map and it was done
It's probably worth mentioning that there was zero indication the maps were loading, except for the led flashing on my thumb drive.. you have to check the navigation database version before and after.

I've just done my MY23 Tiguan today.but took about 3 1/2 hours to do. Had the ctek charger on the battery while doing it with ignition on, aircon off radio off.
I'll update the misus' MY21 Tiguan tomorrow morning after the ctek has run through it's cycle on my battery to full charge.

Which MMI does it have because a MIB3 PRO ( no dials) map UPDATE is only 1.95GB and should only take 20 mins to do
My 2019 Tig with a MIB 2.5 used to take longer as was a full map of 26GB

Hi Hillbilly,
Yes my Tig's is the one without dials.
The download manual pdf indicated that you need a usb stick with a minimum storage capacity of 32GB so maybe the MIB3 version is larger than the 1.95 GB you say.
Also an earlier version of the download manual ( I saved when I updated the maps the 1st time back in Oct23) states that it may take up to 4 hours to update the system in a vehicle.
Interestingly I updated the wife's Tiguan this morning and it took 1 hr and 55min. Hers is an MY21 with the same MIB3 system!
Anyway no inconvenience and best of all no cost to do unlike some other automotive brands.
MIB3 uses the same map data for both Discover (dials on left and right side) and Discover Pro (touch buttons on left side).
Size is under 2gb for Australia/New Zealand maps. Just under 30gb for the European maps.
MIB3 updates/overwrites your previous mapping information, it is designed to be updated over the air (OTA) on a monthly basis working in the background. Unlike the MIB2/MIB2.5 system where the mapping information replaced the data on the SD card (Discover) or hard drive (Discover Pro), hence why the size of data was so large and time it took so long to complete.
Because Australia missed out on Volkswagen's connect services we don't have OTA available or monthly updates. The manual updating of map data relies on placing an USB device in one of the slots and it is set and forget. This could happen within several minutes or hours all depending on the cycle of the moon, price of petrol and the way you cross your arms divided by the amount of time you will hear your ring tone on someone else's mobile phone.
I have experienced my maps taking several days to load to 10 minutes with the last update, same MIB3 system on the same vehicle.
MIB3 maps are common across the Volkswagen family so you can use Skoda, Seat (Cupra) Audi or Volkswagen map updates. It is just that the POI information is brand specific and age of maps differ. Latest maps from VW 23.6 (June 2023) manually loaded versus Audi Feb 2024 (OTA updated).

Thank you Flipper Dog for the additional information.
The Euro maps size helps explain the minimum storage size of a usb stick in the download manual .pdf.
I'm glad that I'm not doing something wrong given your experience that the updates can take varying amounts of time to complete.
