Once before I pruned the unzipped download of some unwanted countries for neatness but it was nbg.
What files CAN be deleted to make it smaller?
cars (chronological) Morris850, Morris Mini DeLuxe, Cooper S, Mazda 1500SS, hard times so some old Holden, old Falcon Ute, better times so second hand Lotus Elan +2 (6 weeks, hopelessly unreliable) Chrysler Valiant Charger 770, second hand Datsun 260Z + 2 auto, Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo, Nissan 200SX turbo auto for 20 years(wonderful car burning ZERO oil after 200,000km & no problems when sold.. should have kept it), Toyota GTS 86 auto, now Golf R Mk 7.5 DSG built Aug2018, white.

Heres what i did exactly and it works every time including this time
1 Found a Fujitsu 32GB SD card in my drawer that i always use for nearly everything
2 Fast formatted it as Fat32 as usual with default allocation size
3 went to Skoda site as usual and downloaded the current map file
4 Waited the 3 hours for it to d/load to Drive E.
5 inserted SD card into computer and Un RARed the file to the SD card
6 40 mins later took it out went to garage.
7 Unlocked car and started the engine and inserted the SD card in slot 2 of the MIB
8 waited for it to find card and start the loading
9 came back 45mins later and removed card
10 Turned engine off and locked car
11 Chucked SD card back in drawer
It works perfectly as always
NO YOU DONT DELETE ANY FILES FROM THE CARD you wil Stuff it if you do
Same issue with me too. Can u elaborate on how you suceeded please. Instead of the SD card, did you use a 2 TB USB stick?
I just partitioned about 35GB in Fat32 on a 2TB external HDD, transferred the map files over and then just plugged it into the car like I would with the 32GB thumb drive. All good

Thx. Very succinct. I will copy and paste it as a summary at the beginning of my note. At point 8, if you don't even need to navigate menus to get the card recognised (which is common with many other update procedures) I will give it a shot and amend my note accordingly. However, and importantly, I am surprised, not to mention a little disappointed, that you failed to mention at point 6. that you ensured the garage was kept open to vent carbon monoxide

I presumed perhaps falsely, that MOST are intelligent enough to do that.. I cant be everywhere to hold your hand.
I should have course realised I could be speaking to the lowest common denominator and been completely explicit. Also as my garage has a solar extractor fan it isnt necessary in my case..,
More about why cant you get the maps on the correct sized card

I should have presumed, perhaps correctly, that you, of all people, seeing as how you are always ahead of the game, would have a hi-tech ventilation system. Furthermore yours would have a sensor for carbon monoxide detection to turn it on automatically. And I am confident that said detector is placed about 150cm above the floor as carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air,

Thx. Today I tried without any partitioning on a 1TB USB hard drive to see if it would work and it DID. I already had a ton of TV recordings on that drive which may account for why it took a while to find the MIB folders and I did not try navigating to them.
Then I drove around Australia (anti-clockwise as that's shorter) to test. I just got back and no probs

Well i dont know what you guys do to have troubles.
Different cards have different capacities slightly for various reasons
I used to think the same on previous years when others would have the same issue, but my trusty Sandisk 32GB would work every time
But not with this update...tried quick format, deep format, different PCs, etc but it just couldn’t fit on.
In the end, I found another way....just took about two hours longer to come up with the solution than It should have.
I just left accessories on and updated. Didn’t run the engine.
Mine took 1 hr to upload (VW map) and I didn't need to run the engine.
ps. your Mazda 1500ss is a lovely car in it's time.
There was a bit of a story with the Mazda. We are in S.A. Always wanted a Lotus Elan. Drove the Mini Deluxe to Melbourne where there were a few for sale every weekend. There were none to be had. A mechanic mate had said the Mini might get us to Melbourne but not back. We spied a Mazda 1500 (not SS) at a dealer and it was instant love with the look of that Bertone body. Then I noticed it had a column shift and bench seat. That would never do. With a flourish, out came a brochure for the SS. Not only did it have the necessary floor change & bucket seats, it had a dual throat carby! With the black seats and roof lining and a wood-rim, drilled spoke aluminium steering wheel to cap it off, we simply had to have one., in white like the brochure. I still think the interior looks great when I see the odd one. Only problem "they are on the docks in customs". So we went to Lorne & spent a week there but it wasn't released & I had a new job to start back in Adelaide so we caught a train back, leaving the Mini as trade-in.
The dealer said he'd send it over. A fortnight later I was worried sick but finally the dealer himself brought it over on a trailer behind his Jag. I took it to the Adelaide dealer to fix a knocking misaligned exhaust & the locals were all over it as they had yet to see any in the flesh.
It was actually fairly gutless and the high stance meant the handling was ordinary. It went the extra yard with quality e.g. engine components were rubber mounted, classy impeccable fit and we loved that appearance. Solid as a rock, quiet and no rattles.
9 moths later we needed some cash and they had gone up in price so much that I sold it at a small profit.
Up until a few years back we would still see one now and again, still looking great, if a little tippy toe, but always in great condition. One even still had the plastic sheeting over the door lining. I'd love to see one lowered.

A couple of tips (that I needed):
1. I used "The Unarchiver" (free) The Unarchiver | Top Free Unarchiving Software for macOS to unzip the .7z file.
2. You don't put the whole folder onto the SD card, instead put the contents of the folder (1 file, 2 folders) straight onto the SD card.
3. To delete hidden macOS files in Finder, type cmd-shift-. (full stop) , you can't delete the .Trash folder though. Alternatively, you can use the free Clean My Drive 2 (Mac App Store) to remove hidden files.
That all worked fine for me. No need for Windows (errggh)!
Oh, also, the download was really slow to start with, so I used an app called Download Shuttle to get the file.
