Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

She who must be obeyed has let me prepare her R after the poor dealer delivery job.

Paint 2 stage corrected, Gyeon pure paint protection, glass, wheels and exterior plastics ceramic treated.

Got rid of the tacky looking "C" pillar decal.

I used my thumb nail to lift a small section up to allow me to grip the decal and it was able to slowly peel away.
If you encounter any sticking use some WD40 and spray under the decal.
When you get to the upper chrome/black C pillar strip the wrap is tucked under the rubber seal of that strip. You need to carefully pull it out .
I didn't need a heat gun or have the car sit in the sun. No need for fishing line either. If the vinyl starts to tear slow down but keep a good grip and it should come away.
There was some minor adhesive residue left over which came off with a strong APC.Flipper Dog

While not a fan of VW's attempt at wrapping (they leave part of the base paint colour on the pillar pillar visible on the door closure line), with the "black pack" i really don't like the way that blue c pillar pokes up into the otherwise all black section.
However, as long as you love it, that's all that mattersCheers

You have a good point there Doc, the wrapping is really a poor attempt to make it look something else.
You would have thought that like the "A" pillars the "C" pillars could have been painted black to match the roof. That way the transition between body colour and roof colour would be defined at the lower window mark around the entire vehicle. Or apart from trying to paint two colours on one panel, wrap in in a matching black to the roof.
Main reason the wrapping went is that there were small bits that had lift/chipped away on one side. I could only see it getting worst and didn't want to play stupid games with VW in trying to replace/repair it.Flipper Dog

I think they'd look good with a plain gloss black wrap on that pillar. The textured finish was unnecessary IMO - too many different textures just make things look "fussy".
I seem to recall that the black roof is actually a wrap too??? The roof rails are painted if I recall correctly, but the roof and A pillars are wrapped??? Anyway, it is what it is...Cheers

Thanks for the contributions. Will be heading to Camberwell Volkswagen to purchase next month.I have decided to go with the TROC R Pyrite Silver, the black style pack and will include the Panoramic Sunroof. The main drawback to me is cabin noise.I do not think the Hankook tyres are helpful here!! I am wondering if anyone has better suggestions,, perhaps Michelin is a better option. BTW the 2 decal stickers on the C pillars mentioned earlier in the thread WILL disappear shortly after I receive the car.Last edited by CHILLY88; 02-04-2024, 07:06 PM.

Firstly I live in Darwin and the sunroof would never get used and I found all the blackout on the roof and pillar was tacky too. I'd much rather just have a blue roof and pillar with the chrome edging.
What did you use to treat your rubbers?

What do these do?
Overtaking_right_prevention: - Vehicle is factory set to restrict you in cruise control from passing on the left of traffic, this removes that restriction.
function_configuration_hmi: - Removes the "nag" screen when you start up the vehicle.Flipper Dog

This stuff is magic, will stop rubbers freezing in cold weather and protects rubbers from drying out and fading in hot weather.
It is only for rubber not plastics, so it is not a 303 or Armor All silicon type of coverup.
Would have liked an non black style package but I got a demo that had it. The deal I received was too good to worry about it.Flipper Dog
