Announcement

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Mostly my T Cross starts instantly, but lately I have had a problem that I experienced when the vehicle was new. It fails to respond to the starter button, without even the starter motor tuning over; a click of the solenoid is all I hear. I jumped it with a power pack, drove it across the road to my neighbouring VW dealer who spent several hours on it today running diagnostics. There was an error code about high voltage, the battery was fully charged and they couldn't replicate the fault. Of course it starts perfectly for them and, for the time being me.The fault has been cleared

Living close they have asked me to call them if it happens again, and they will come to me ( great service). They thought it may have been the battery or the starter button at fault, but diagnostics were silent on those suspicions.

Has anyone had this problem on any model?

    Cheers-John

ciao, seems I have a similar issue with a VW Cross TDI DSG. Even after long runs (50+ km) when all is hot and battery is obviously fully charged, it sometimes does not start. This car still have the key to be used, but reported problem is similar. I have bought it used last November and did 10.000km since then. Car is from 2020 and has 30.000km still under warranty for two months. I have taken it to the VW dealer in town yesterday and was not starting also in front of him. My worries is that it seems they have no clue about what the problem can be. Sometime the engine gives a little click on the solenoid, sometimes is has happened it was all silent and completely dead. As said as it seems they have no clue, I'm asking you if you have eventually identified the problem and how you have fixed, seems customers have to tell VW what to do.....
    thanks

Worn Ign switch would sound sort of logical Has it been used on short trips or long ones. Short ones would mean a lot more starts I guess.

Hi Attisfo, My problem was related to how a dash cam was wired up. It was a dealer fitted camera and had been wired up incorrectly. They fixed it, supplied a new battery , and it has been fine since then. Ciao -John

In my case all is original and nothing was added. I have read about faulty cam position sensor, but as this is not show on VW computer, they don’t want to change it.
After my car failed in front of them they have kept it for two weeks, changed starting motor but nothing, problem remains and it’s not easy to replicate as it happens after a long run (at least 50 km) and when all is hot (on cold all is perfect). Donno what to say, will take it to a friend and ask him to change the cam position sensor at my cost and hope to fix it….
Shame VW italy doesn’t dialog with other VW globally to see if and how it was fixed somewhere else
