Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Amarok V6 3.0L TDI Pre fuel filter & Catch can

    Hi,

Looking for feedback from any VW Amarok V6 3.0L owners that have fitted a secondary pre fuel filter & a catch can.

If so, if you could share
    - Brand
    - Any issues found / feedback after use
    - km's of use
    - Concerns with warranty issues after fitment

    Thanks,

    Greywolf

It has been tested that the Mann Provent catch cans perform the best in terms of filtration compared to the metal catch cans such as the HPD or SEPR8R. But note that the Mann Provent catch cans have a fine filter inside (which is what makes them perform better than the metal catch cans which do not have this filter) and this filter does need to be replaced every 40-50,000km or so. And they cost about $80.

Many places sell the Provent kits to suit the Amarok and other popular utes, but I got my gear from Western Filters in Sydney and they have been good to deal with on the various occasions I have purchased parts from them.

Western Filers also sell the pre filters you are asking about. Looks like they have 2 options. I don't have any experience or feedback on these, but im sure there are reviews and videos on YouTube doing tests on them which should help you.

      Hi Lucas_R,

Thanks for the reply & information. It seems the Mann Provent 200 IV is the one too choose for catch can.
Do you happen to know details about the water separation in the OEM fuel filter? I noticed some have a water sensor. Some don't. Only 2.0L has a water drain. Do you know the micron rating of the OEM filter?

      Thanks,

Greywolf, for Amaroks Net4x4 is the go to.
Link below to his fuel and catchcan filters. Western filters generally use cheap hoses. My Jeep weeps on all the hoses I got from them. Net4x4 brackets always fit perfect and he gets hoses made specific for application and everything actually bolts in. Just a thought though. I fitted a provent from brand new and just took it off at 100k km because I was only getting a sludge dribble in the drain every 20k km. There is very little blow by in the amarok V6 but I also have the EGR 'not working', which helps also.
