Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • TSI Tank Clean out

so the TSI decided to start juddering at h`way speed, I thought was a faulty coil pack or plugs and went to change them with no luck, then I took her VW for a full diagnosis and they said I had dirty fuel in the tank oil had mixed with the fuel from a filling station, they recommended I remove the tank and clean it to start with. after taking this job on myself was surprised at what I found. I did clean it out good and proper but alas she still has the judder so my next step is de-carbon and perhaps new injectors as tried injector cleaners in the tank and no luck

If the pump is still good, and it ought to, it's been oiled, maybe there's a drop in pressure from oil contamination in the fuel filter. I don't know how you would check the pressures on those.
When the dealers apply injector cleaner, they apply it neat straight into the fuel lines.

Did you replace the fuel filter? I had this a few years ago, got "bad" fuel that clogged the fuel filter. Once you have the filter its a 10min job to replace.

Yes, replaced filter every 10 000 kms and after i did the clean out, when I spoke my technician at VW he also mention could be leaky injector.

I replaced the injectors in my last vehicle at 900k. Jap. Last forever. Nearly. Anyway, bought a used set of injectors and had them serviced by an EFI technician before having them fitted and got better fuel consumption than when it was new...by almost 2 litres/100 and it went like it had a new motor.

Quick and maybe dumb question but when I replace the injectors does my TSI need recoding or simply plug and play.

quite intrigued to see when I do the Walnut blasting if its heavily carboned but I sure it will be.

Not if they are the same spec. Only if you use larger injectors (or smaller but surely nooone would)

That is a known APR tune issue I'm afraid. I have it too. Not enough fuel being provided by the HPFP for what the tune requires at low(ish) revs in those gears.

It (the stuttering) goes away when you drop to 4th/3rd and floor it, yes?

I am in the process of upgrading the HPFP (bought a new 1 to install (which arrived last week) while I do the Autotech HPFP upgrade to the old 1) and will post the results of that soonish.

No APR on my TSI, still stock if I drop to 4th its still there and also forgot to mention the VW diagnosis picked up NO faults.

did the the cam follower and HPFP 20 000kms back maybe abit more.

See if you can measure FP in the fuel rail before the injectors. If this is good, then injectors would be my next avenue of investigation.

Good advise, what FP should I be looking for?
