Is there an affordable OBD11 scan tool for the amarok?

It depends how much do you want to spend.
The VCDS from Ross tech is the one that’s more suitable than others. The OBDEleven has similar menus, but you need internet every time you use it.

Keep in mind that the generic OBD2 readers aren’t best suited for scanning the diesel, since you get very limited information.

I picked this one today, just to play with it. But, it didn’t want to pair with my iPhone XR, it connected with my old Note8, but it didn’t communicate, most likely doesn’t have the right protocol.

I am looking for a scanner that may help in remote areas. I have had warning lights where there is very little help and no information available

Then get the VCDS, it’s easy to use and really good value for money.

If you have Amarok 2015 and younger, you need at least VCDS HEX V.2, otherwise the old interface will not communicate properly with many modules in the newer cars. My old VCDS HEX cable couldn’t even communicate with the engine ECU in my 2019 Amarok.

Rosstech VCDS uses a laptop and cable as Transporter intimated. Cost about $450

OBDII uses an Android phone and requires an active internet connection while working

They have a new model coming out next week that also works with that fruity thing

Cost unknown but possibly $225???

You mean the OBD eleven is a good choice, because just an OBD2 is not a good choice. It gets minimum information and it will only scan codes and only some data from the engine ECU. Unlike the VCDS and OBD eleven.
Though you get what you’ve paid for.

I've got a Rosstech though to be honest the only thing I've done is reprogram the head unit to accept a genuine VW reverse camera after I put in an RCD510 and camera in my 2012. VW dealer said it couldn't be done lol... I'm a little worried I'll mess something up if I play with too much, but I'll probably hold onto the Rosstech for now in case I get a new Rok and need it.

A good affordable tool is Carista. You can scan faults/check engine lights and clear them, and with pretty much all VW/Audi vehicles you can tweak certain settings about how the car behaves.

I have the Carista and although it is limited compared to VCDS/RossTech, it is only about 20% of the price. The price of the VCDS is simply ludicrous.

It works on both iPhone and Android. I use it with iPhone 6 on my Audi SQ5 and have been happy with what it can do. Just bear in mind that although the initial purchase price is cheap, after the 30 day period is up, its a subscription service to keep using all of the functions (approx $50 per 12 months, although you can buy 1 week and 1 month timeframes also).

But no where near as much as a real OBDeleven Trust the the threads Ebay cheapies have proved to be not very good at all

The Torque and VAGDPF are just the readers. You can’t do anything with them, just to monitor and at the best they reset some faults, mainly only in the engine ECU. You won’t be even able to reset the service reminder with them.

Though, if you’d be getting cheap one only, don’t go for the cheapest one. The ELM327 for less than $20 doesn’t have to work reliably.

Hi, what version of vcds is compatible with an 2019 - 2020 amarok? I´m looking for one but I´m not sure about the version I shoud buy. Kind regards.
