  • Power Upgrade for the Ultimate

So I had a chat to my dealership today about the MY19 Amarok and there is some good news.
My dealership had a video conference with VGA Yesterday.
So apparently VW is waiting to see the official power figures of the new V6 MB X-Class, once they have been announced officially, VW is going to offer the Amarok Ultimate with a power boost to match or beat MB!
    But only in Ultimate Form.
So around the 180kw-190kw range. No overboost
Torque Figures were not discussed in the meeting though which is disappointing.
Also the MY19 Amarok V6 will have rear airbags as standard across the range, about bloody time..

Which is far more important than kW. I don't know why people still focus on power. It means nothing when there are speed limits. Acceleration is far more important. One of the reasons (other than fuel efficiency and doing country km every day) I had no issues going with the 2.0 diesel instead of the 2.0 petrol. It will accelerate faster as it has more torque.

Torque is also far more important for towing.

      Power Upgrade for the Ultimate

Yes I agree completely, however if they are going to boost power to around the 190kw mark, I would think the torque will increase as well.
      Fingers crossed for 600nm [emoji106]

The importance of torque vs power on acceleration depends on the gearing. Power (kW) is a function of torque and RPM, which is why it is relevant and why people focus on it.

Anyone have anymore info on the slightly tweaked Amarok that is due later this year?

Its been confirmed that the Ultimate will have 190kw/580NM in normal mode and 200kw (but still 580NM) on overboost.

This makes it (still) the most powerful ute on the market in Aus. Should move it up the performance ladder a bit too

            For those that are interested:

            TDI340 0-100 in 13.7s
            TSI300 0-100 in 9.9s
            TDI420 in 11.1s
            V6 TDI550 in 7.9s
            V6 TDI580 in 7.7s perhaps?

            Although a tuned petrol 300TSI will do 0-100 in 6.7s ..... compared to a tuned TDI420 that takes 9s ....

I have also heard great things about the V6 TDI tuned ....

The acceleration figures look a bit conservative to me.

Which ones, Miro? Other than the tuned numbers and the guesstimate on the new V6 all published VW figures.

I have heard 6.5s for a tuned V6 TDI550 (about 230kw/650NM), which I could probably get the TSI to if I absolutely nailed the 2nd-3rd gear change. Or I could just go Stg2 or even 3 to drop it even further

Yeah have heard about the power upgrade. Wondering if they will update anything else and maybe add some other features that many other cars come standard with these like remote start etc.

Anyone know of a release date to Aus?

I don’t care about the remote start, sometimes less is better. But, they should include front difflock.

Hey mate, interestingly REVO tuned a standard V6 and smashed out a 0-60MPH time of only 5.89 seconds.

And there is a tuner with a business named Crispmods (Chris) who took his own stage 1 tuned V6 down the quarter and recorded a time of 13 odd seconds. Both on YouTube.

Can't wait to see what I can get out of my on-order power upgraded Black Ultimate due in the third quarter this year
