  • MK7 Hill Hold??

    Hi Guys,

I wanted to know if the MK7 Golf is supposed to have Hill Hold assist?

I noticed that when I am on a Hill my car still rolls backwards before I accelerate, i'm not sure if this is normal or do I have to engage the Auto Hold each time I want Hill Hold assist to active.

Just wondering if this is normal or I need to get this checked out.

So I assume that each time we need hill hold assist we need to activate Auto Hold....I would have thought that they would have a sensor to detect that the car was on a hill and then automatically engage the brakes for a few seconds whilst we move our slow little feets to hit the accelerator.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this use to happen in my previously VW Jetta

I have a Mk7 TDI — the only time it ever rolls back is when I forget to activate the electric parking brake after a long reverse.
As Hillbilly says, press the button and light the yellow LED (it should default to on.)

Hillhold is different to the parking brake on my car However both need to be manually activated to make them work.

Once you've pushed the auto hold button it should stay on until you push it next. It remembers even after you turn the car off.

Hill Hold and Auto Hold are not the same thing. Hill Hold will only activate when the car detects you're on a sufficient incline/gradient; it will then prevent the car from rolling backwards for a couple of seconds, regardless of whether you have Auto Hold enabled or not. If the car is rolling backwards before you take off, chances are the incline is not sufficiently steep, or there may be other conditions in effect to prevent it working. Read your owner's manual for details. AFAIK it's fitted to all Mk7 Golfs.

Auto Hold comes into effect as you come to a standstill after having been in motion; it retains the braking force that was applied at the moment the car came to a standstill, even when you release your foot from the brake pedal - until you touch the accelerator or disable Auto Hold.

If you only use light braking to stop the car the auto hold handbrake function will not engage nor will the auto engine off function.
