Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hatch Boot Trunk panel removal guide

    Hi All.

I'm interested in modifying my MK7 boot and I was hoping someone could link to a guide. I'm having issues searching for it because there are three terms to describe the rear of the car.

-I am looking at running a wire from the existing boot light to the other side and adding another light source.
-I am looking at cutting an inset to allow for a full size spare tyre.
-I am curious if you can retrofit the 12V outlet that is available in some models (I just need the power source)

If anyone could post a link to how to remove the existing trim with out damaging it, that would be super.

    Thanks

I might as well dump everything here.

How to remove the hatch/boot lock trim piece.

How to remove the hatch lining.
Note1: My Mk7 did not have the round hole you can use to run wires through instead it only has a much smaller hole for the metal clip.
Note2: As per the you tube comments, that plastic clip is very difficult/impossible to remove with out breaking. My advice is to use a very broad (as wide as the plastic grommit) plastic trim tool. I used a narrow one and it just tore. You can see what you are fighting by looking at the one on the underside.

Here's the OEM wiring arrangement for the rear 12Volt socket. Note SC40 is the same fuse that supplies the ciggy lighter power in the centre console.

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.
