The VW way of just swiping the notch to lock & placing hand on the inside of the handle to unlock is much more intuitive & slick.
Yes it is convenient (keyless was on Clio RS that I was leasing last year on my holiday) but there is more and more reports warning about criminals using keyless point of entry

Thanks MIRSAD, an interesting read. My current RS Megane keyless system (proximity entry, exit, hatch and start) is very intelligent, with door entry only available when at the side of the car, the boot entry when at the rear only, start when in the car only and nothing when in front of the car, except locking of course. The key-card never has to leave your pocket and no additional button pushing is required. However, if you wish to deadlock the car (and power windows, boot etc) then a button is provided on the key-card to disable all proximity functions. I use this in public car parks, street parking etc.
I'll be very interested to see the functionality of the system on the GTI 40, which BTW is available to be picked up on Thursday at high noon! Will have lots of pics and info for posting come Thursday night and Friday re everybody's questions. Getting VERY excited now.

EDIT: The proximity system also works on the fuel filler cap!

This is more more comprehensive read and more disturbing:

German researchers show that the five-year-old vulnerability still exists in hundreds of thousands of vehicles on the road.

... And first car in that ADAC video is Renault - unfortunately
Data are coming from German ADAC (which I really respect- was member for 6 years)

So guys it's arrived and I've seen it (in person) still no test drive and it literally arrived 2 days ago.

Here are some pics so enjoy.

              Things I've noticed:

No ambient lighting but appears to have the LED stripe still there.
              Pirelli P zero tires
Seats IMO are the most comfortable out of GTI/R
Steering wheel feels nice and soft.
              Standard 6.5" screen.

                Looks epic!

So by ambient lighting we're referring to the red glow that comes from underneath the rear view mirror?

                The seatbelt stitching... hnfff!

                  Great pics, awesome!

I think the ambient lighting usually runs along the door trim in red, blue in the R, is that correct?

Yes this light, didn't see it turn on when doors opened unlike the other gti models

                      ^^^Looks nice under showroom lights

Ambient lighting is also down near pedals & behind the door handles in prior GTI's.

There are also 2 red strips - one along top of door & another along floor (under the doors).

Thanks for the recon work Bassik, your observations seem to be consistent with what we've discussed previously. Good news re the comfort of the seats, after 3 years of the Recaro racing shells in the Megane, my back can do with a break! Great seats for lots of G forces but get uncomfortable after an hour or so.
Cant wait to drive it now. Only 3 more sleeps!

You'll have to report once you get. I posted in another forum my reconsideration for it and opting for an R instead.
                          I'm just not completely convinced.

Also not being able to test drive a car before you buy is just completely ridiculous. Like what the.....

KESSY is only available when leaving the standard seats on. When you spec the buckets, (the correct type of seats for this car ) it gets deleted (as well as the start/stop button). Personally after partly driving a KESSY car for work for a year I never got used to it, was still going to start the engine with the key even after an entire year and frankly there was never a time that I thought "oh thank God it's KESSY it made my life so much easier". It probably only appeals to me as a fancy gadget but especially with how busy hackers are in exploiting these systems today I'd rather not have it even if it was bucket seats-compatible.
